Road Tar

Post by huskerpt »

If any of you are like me, I hate road tar. I was talking to my neighbour the other day and he said he uses WD-40 to remove the tar and he swore that it was easier than the bug and tar remover. I tried it on my truck last night. It takes virtually no rubbing at all. I can't imagine it would harm the paint as I have sprayed door hinges and other things to lubircate them and never noticed any paint peeling. Thought some of you would like this information as it is the season for tar.

Yup, used that method before. It does work well, but make sure you reaplly wax to the area. I'm guessing the WD-40 will remove any product you have applied.

WD-40 and kero are the 2 best. If you look at the step by step detail. I told you that.

Do you think this would work on the plastic front "bumper"? I have tar and I'm having trouble removing it. ThanksThermometer

Yes, it should. If your Vibe has the monotone package, you may notice some of your paint color on the rag that you use to wipe off the tar. The bumpers of monotone Vibes are not clear coated and are painted with a little bit different kind of paint. (Clear coated plastic bumpers would crack and flake off the paint if you bumped into something so they don't use it for those parts.) Just thought I'd tell you this so that you wouldn't be alarmed if this happened to you.

Gasoline works also. If you are desperate. Put a little bit on a rag and it will come off very easily.

Yeah, gas will work too, but it's pretty tough on the finish. I can't recommend that, especially when there are other products that will get the job done well and not harm the finish.
