Intakes: Injen vs AEM

Post by Evanshall »

i was reading around and was wondering if anybody here has tryed out the AEM intake system, according to these claims it does 15hp and 12 tq increase, were as i know the Injen is good up to 12hp and 9 tq, so have any of us heard about or tried this product, should i try it when i get the time and money, according to the stats, this thing should be better (but i didnt look at any internal stat type really anylitical stuff)http://www.hopupracing.com/aemcoairin02 ... ri7.htmlas well whats the K&N typhoon, any better or worse, just saw alot of fans of it at matrixowners.com websiteand are there any other intakes that may be rare and expensive but sereisly blow either of these away?

sorry, but i don't see a CAI adding that much hp/tq to 1zz or 2zz engines. i'd want to see some dynos to back that claim up. honestly, the most you're gonna get is going to be about 12 hp/7tq that's actually useable. still, the CAI is the best choice for getting the most bang for your buck.k&n typhoon is a short ram.and as far as a better intake system that's more expensive that will get you more horsepower? that'd be a TURBO! Was told "sorry AEM doesn't make a cold air then if this is what they sent." Well due to their inability to know their own products since I have seen AEM cold air intakes I bought an Injen. Have not gotten it installed yet as its still in shipping but I expect to be pleased with it.

I love my AEM. It seems to be a little louder than the Injen's I've heard. As far as performance, well, they're both darn close. At the time I ordered mine, AEM saved me a few pennies to put towards other mods. That's why I went with AEM.

Supposedly two celicas dynoed with the same exhaust (this is where the additional gains from the intake come from because having exhaust obviously multiplies the effect of the intake) and having an AEM and Injen, the Injen was around 1 to 2 hp better. Then again they look the same so its all up to opinion I suppose.

Same motor but the CAIs for the Celica are completely different in length and bends due to the tight fit. Injen is the way to go on a Celica but they are very similar on a Vibe.

Yep, altho I suppose my general point with the post was to say that the numbers are usually a bit exaggerated because of the exhaust.

I would like to see if there is a big difference between the short intake and the cai. I know cold air is always better but with both intakes i wonder if there is a big difference. I have a AEM short and love it but if there was a noticable difference with the cai i would change. any ideas . .. has anyone tried both?

Kinda noob question but I am in the market for a CAI. I am more interested in the sound/look of the thing since I know they really don't help alot in HP. (AKA Ia m looking for the "rice" effect )The question I have is which version do I need?? Most of the sites I look at only offer the Toy. versions. I just am not sure which Toy. verson will work in my base Vibe. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah when I installed mine and for the first time I noticed the exhaust got louder (aftermarket one tho not sure about stock) and the engine definitely sounded more angry and aggressive which was the coolest sound in the world along with the occasional "pssssht" from the suction in between shifts =D

I like my Injen now that I got my CEL resolved. It's growly when you need it. When I shut off the car, I always turn down the radio and open the door to hear the "psssht" sound

My question still remains tho as I am definatly buying some form of CAI this week....Which Toyota Matrix model match my BASE Vibe???The XR or XRS???I can't find many places that offer the "Vibe" CAI so I am gunna have to buy one of the Matrix ones. Also the ones I find for the Vibe and listed as a Vibe part are about $25 more than the Matrix ones. If the Matrix fit then no need in spending the extra $$ for the Vibe one.

Thanks.. ordering the Matrix one Thursday from hopupracing.com then. Prolly the AEM since it will match the engine colors I will be using. Plus it looks alot similar to the Injen and its a few $$ cheaper.
