Read in Car and Driver / Juy 2004 issue Joining the Saturn Vue and Chevrolet Equinox on the Theta architecture will be a new sport-ute that Pontiac will call the Torrent. Essentially a modified Equinox, the Torrent will have a unique interior and front and rear fascias, and ride and handling appropriate for GM's sporty brand. Power should come from one of the many V-6s in GM's cache, although there is no word yet on which one. Expect front- and all-wheel drive variants when the Torrent goes on sale in late 2005 as a 2006.(Sounds like a big brother to the Vibe!)
The Torrent will have the same Honda V6 that they now use in the VUE. 250 ponies. There's a pretty good chance the Torrent will be built at the same plant as the NOX. (Cami Automotive, Ingersoll, Ontario).
The Honda V6 is a nice engine, but it just doesn't seem too "Pontiac" to me. I guess if I wanted a Honda engine, I would buy a Honda vehicle. As for those potential drawings, they still look a little Aztek-like to me. Better, but not there yet. They need to work on the front end a bit.
