you mean like grind the valves to get them to seal correctly on the cylinder head? If you're going into the engine that far, then it would probably be best to get a copy of the service manual. Don't know if Nova still has his for sale ( http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10657 ) but they show up on ebay from time to time,

Not a valve job. Owners manual says to adjust valves at 60,000. I have about 40,000 and am starting to hear what I believe is valve noise. Would like proper procedure for adjusting valves.Thanks

The service manual says the way to adjust the valve lash is to start by using a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the lifter and the cam. For the 1ZZ engine, if the clearance it excessive, then replace the lifter. Apparently lifters can be obtained in a range of sizes , so if ou find one that is out of tolerance, take it out, measure it, calculate how long it should be to be withing tolerance, and order the proper liength lifterFor the 2zz engine, about the same procedure, except it requires a special tool, and adjust the valves by using different thickness valve adjusting shims. For the 1ZZ engine, the speec isIntake - 0.15 - 0.25 mm ( 0.006 - 0.010 in)Exhaust - 0.25 - 0.35 mm ( 0.010 - 0.014 in)For the 2ZZ engine, the spec isIntake - 0.08 - 0.18 mm (0.0031 - 0.0071 in)exhaust - 0.22 - 0.33 mm (0.0087 - 0.0126 in)easurement must be taken on a cold engine.which engine do you have?
