CD Player: CDs skip. Problem with Player?

Post by de387 »

Hi..I have a new Pontiac Vibe. CDs that I play on my CD player sometimes skip or stick like an old record player that keeps repeating the same words. I keep my CDs clean and stored properly. They are not scratched or dirty. They always play well in my other car. It is not often that they do this, but maybe every 30 minutes of playing, it will do it. Once I Fast Forward it a minute ahead, it will stop. Thanks for any help!

Welcome to GenVibe!Bring it by the dealer, sounds like something's defective... It's happened before, and it's unfortunate! But it should be fixed fairly easily. You aren't doing anything wrong, sometimes, the players just don't want to work with you!

Hey there, and welcome to the site! I had similar problems with my Vibe's CD player. I'm assuming you've got the single-disc unit. I'm on my third one right now, actually...I had a combination of cosmetic defects, plus some really bad skipping, particularly on CDR's. It got to the point where it wouldn't play CDR's at all. Pressed CD's were fine, most of the time. Like you, other CD players played the discs just fine. When it wasn't skipping, I had static mixed in with the audio when playing CD's. Is this with pressed CD's, or CDR's on yours?I had it replaced under warranty, and the brand new replacement CD player they gave me was bad from the start. So, I ended up with another replacement. The third one they gave me was a remanufactured unit, which doesn't look the best, but it works.Have your dealer take a look at it... Hopefully they will have some suggestions.

Marlborocowboy, that was the exact problem with my second CD player the dealer installed. There is a TSB out on that scraping/scratching noise while braking or making turns If you're still under warranty, bring it in and have it replaced!
