I've been dreaming of putting one in one of my cars for years. I just wondered if it's worth the money. If you have one, are you glad you bought it or do you wish you would have gone with a normal CD player? What do you use it for? Video games? DVDs? Computer? Also, what is a good brand to get?

hi ebslopp,I'm kinda interested in this too. I just have the basic OEM CD player in mine. I don't really want a panel that flips up... Looking at a Kenwood that is a double din that is a touch screen, the screen moves to put in the CD/DVD but other than that, it's flush to the unit. ALso has the RDS which has been nice when I'm traveling East to South Carolina. I don't remember the model number but Crutchfield had it for around $1100 (*yikes!) but might be worth a look.Dave
I had a DVD/VCD/TV tuner/MP3 deck under the passanger seat (no moons and tunes amp) and put a mount for an lcd screen under my panasonic stereo. The stereo has an aux in for the audio from the dvd. I found this setup worth it's weight in gold......pop in Spongebob or Blues Clues and it keeps our 2yr old boy entertained.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=932I removed the system from my Vibe and put the stock h.u. back in because I bought a Saturn Vue, and I'm going to put the same setup in the Vue.
I would have to suggest the AVIC-N1. For $2k from Crutchfield, it does EVERYTHING.VideoNavigationPerformance metersRadioMP3Add-on XMAdd-on DVD/CD changerFor $2,000, it's a deal that's tough to beat. It's a flip-out screen with a touchscreen.http://www.crutchfield.com/S-F...earch= ... vic-n1.com

My wife and I usually don't ride together in it, so the only person there to watch would be the driver. So it might be distracting while driving. But it would be soooo sweet for road trips. The feature I would probably use the most might be an animated eq display much like winamp.

The N1 is primarily a navigation system though, so most likely you'd be running it with either the CD player or the NAV screen running. The AVIC-N1 website has some screenshots on it. To be honest, the NAV part alone would be worth it. And absolutely useful for roadtrips. It has an internal memory which can store the route data and play video at the same time, so it'll do guiding and play DVDs at the same time.I think it might have an EQ screen, I haven't seen it in person, so I can't say for sure. For $2k, though, you can't beat the featureset.
