How many miles were on the odometer when you took delivery of your new Vibe from the dealer? The last new car I bought had 35 miles on it, which I consider very high, especially for a car that I ordered! If I buy a new car, I want it as NEW as possible, and want to put the miles on myself, not test drivers, salesmen doing pizza runs, etc.

My understanding is that there is a test drive done, at the factory. You want that Test drive correct?Otherwise the rail yards that collect and sort the cars going to different areas and from different factories are awesome apparently and are so sizeable that they add up some miles.Your dealer takes your car out for a drive to ensure it is in good order and to put gas in it, the cars are shipped virtually empty.I am sure there are people on the forum that can provide more details about all that behind the scene stuff. My car had 60km = 36 miles when I finally got the keys.

That is my point exactly... the more miles your car has, the more likely that it was driven hard (not good during break-in), or driven for short trips without warming up completely (leads to incomplete combustion and condensates in the engine) and other bad things. Factory test, sure, dealer fueling, well, OK. But I think that some of the LOW mileage figures posted in the poll indicates that the required testing doesn't put many miles on the car. And after all, a MILE is quite a long way for moving the car from the factory, to the rail yard, to a truck transport, etc. etc. etc. I would think that 20 miles would be an absolute maximum for required driving prior to delivery. My local dealer has offered to dealer-trade for a Vibe equipped the way I want it, but even then, I would want it transported on a flatbed or for me to go get it and drive it "home" myself. - ESJ

> 200, 90 of that was driving it from another dealer. Wish it had been less. I have ordered cars and I like getting a car that noone else has driven. Particularly since I know how I drive the demos and with the gears being so close on this thing. My wife and the sales guy both burned the clutch on the GT we test drove.

quote:> 200When I bought my Vibe back in July, they had over 20 Vibe's on the lot. Almost all of them were bought or traded from other dealers farther away, so they all had at least 150 miles or more just for that reason. In addition, I don't think they were having an easy time selling the Vibe at that point in this area, and from the looks of it, they were test driving alot but not selling any. I think this has changed though, because in the past month there has been a big surge in Vibe's on the road in my area.Plus, I had to drive around 50 miles home from this dealer, so I ended up with around 255 miles when I finally got it home.A couple people I know who have Matrices also had over 200 miles on the odometer when they bought theirs from the dealer.
break in periods of now are kind of a farce. you should go to a plant when they make a new car and see when they rev it high for 10 minutes straigt. It would make any owner cringe. but it has to be done if anything breaks. so no matter if your car comes with 100 or 1 mile on it its gonna be revved very high. yogi

Mine had 10 miles on it when I went to the dealer to pick it up (ordered it). I took a short drive in it to make sure it was OK, and added 50% to the mileage. So it was 15 when I took delivery, although they put 10 on the paperwork.
Well my wife and I bought our Vibe with 9 miles on it!! Then we drove it hoem and put 500 on it right away. It is such a blast to drive. We love the salsa color.
My Vibe had only about 15 kilometers on it when I took delivery. It had been ordered by the dealer for his own stock. I know that Canadian dealers are trading Vibes like crazy. Ironically, one on his lot was from a dealer about 250 miles closer to my home town. (I saw the order ticket on the floor of the car). I originally went to look at a Salsa VIbe but it was being used by a salesman. It apparently had over 1500 kilometers on it and they were only going to take $175 off the price (taxes)! I didn't pursue that for long. What a joke!

My Vibe had 15 miles on it. But more than half were mine from test driving it. My test drives always include some city stop&go, hill climbing, rough roads, and a highway loop with high speed straight and some winding 2-lane curvy.I had told my salesman I was most intersted in a monotone Neptune, and the next day he had one on the lot. I asked if he'd traded for it, and he replied that it had just arrived off a truck. I'm estimating it had KSNeptune
Mine had 11 km (6.9 miles). Very good But when the sales manager asked the dealer what was on the odo when I was there to take delivery, I answered 4300 km (2688 miles)!!!They all laughed at the joke!

About 18 miles, but about ten of that was the familiarization trip that I drove with the dealer's person before we went back in (me with a big grin on my face) to finish the paperwork.
Speaking of "close gears", I heard a real horror story from a factory rep who recently had to investigate a badly broken new GT. Turned out someone had really put the "Demo" in demonstrator, namely by winding it up in 5th gear and somehow stuffing it into FIRST! Between the engine damage and the effects of the shrapnel from the exploding clutch, the repair estimate had reached $CAN 14,000 before they pulled the plug....
