Got my Vibe back from clutch replacement. Good news....bad news.

Post by Kissfan79 »

Well...I got my Vibe back from the dealership yesterday afternoon from having the clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing replaced. The good news: The clutch felt great. It engaged quicker when letting the pedal up and juast had an overall "crisper" and smoother feel. They also replaced the flywheel because my rep said it had what he called "hot spots".....spots on the flywheel where there was slippage. The bad news: I noticed after I got my car back that there was some gear oil dripping down from the transaxle. At first I kinda' freaked and called my rep back at the dealership. I knew that they had changed the transaxle oil due to the service and we were both wondering if it was just some spillage that was dripping down because the dripping stopped fairly quickly after I shut the car off. He told me to bring it back in today to have it looked at. Well....evidently when they put the axle shaft back in, it pinched the seal and that was where it was actually dripping oil. They are getting a new seal in tomorrow (from Toyota no less ) and will install it. He assured me that there was still plenty of oil in the transaxle and that I didn't have to worry about any damage from the drippage. On another note, the new seals that the windows slide up into in the door frames look great. Well....she should be back tomorrow once and for all. This time.....they gave me a Chevy Tahoe to drive Jim

I think I need to swing by the local dealer and see if they'll honor the warranty from NJ (I'm currently in GA). I've noticed recently that sometimes when I go from 2nd to 3rd, even with the clutch down on the floor, it'll grind into 3rd.. I can't believe a clutch would be doing this in less than a year... It's not like I race it either!

Go have them check it out. The worst thing that they can say is "No". I didn't think that my dealer was going to do what they did but they did a complete replacement under warranty. It's worth a shot. The warranty is on the card itself no matter where you go. I have my service done at a different dealership than the one I bought it from.Jim

Maybe the general GT clutch problem isn't with the disk/pressure plate/flywheel, but in the self adjusting hydraulic part.

It's possible. I had to replace the clutch on my Probe because the hydraulics were off.. Either way, i'll try taking it to the local dealer sometime next week...

I went to the dealership yesterday and they said theres no way its under the warranty and that its gonna be $790 bucks to replace it with the factory one. I asked about installing a brand name racing one and he said to just take it to a shop to do that, but if it ruins the transmission, it voids the warranty. Theres no way I'm putting the same clutch back in though.

Wow.....that sucks. I just got mine back yesterday after they replaced the pinched seal. All the work I had done was covered under warranty except for the license plate bracket I had them install on the front. That cost me $20. Jim

I know it's an old thread, but i'm suffering major clutch issues... How many miles did you have when they did it under warranty?
