Aftermarket Paint Peeling

Post by JustinVGT »

Hey Everyone,Since having my rear bumper replaced the week before last, the paint is already beginning to peel where the water is splashed against it. This is only from the few days of rain that we had last week. I'm going to stop by the shop on my way home from work tonight and have them look at it. As I mentioned in my previous post about the repair, my front bumper was doing the same. They just touched it up and it looks great, but I'm wondering how long it will last as well. Has anyone else with aftermarket paint jobs had similar problems? I wonder if there is something they can do to make the paint adhere to the plastic better. I did not have any problems with the paint peeling on the factory paint. I'm going to talk to them tonight and see what they say.Later,

Well, I talked to the manager of the shop yesterday. He said the plastics come with some residue or coating from the factory that has to be removed before painting. They first bake the plastic and then use some chemical cleaner on it. He said you can't tell if it is all removed from looking at it, but apparently after painted, if it peels then it was not all removed. He really wants to make sure everything is taken care of and next Tuesday, they are going to sand away the edge, bake it again and repaint it. He said it should work and I should not have to come back with it peeling off in the future. I sure hope so.I'm probably going to lower my Vibe Saturday and the body shop's driveway has a VERY steep angle to it. I'm going to be very careful and enter at an angle next Tuesday. I hope I don't scrape. Later,
