Then again, he let me try his Injen'ed base for comparison, which was very illuminating.Hey, did I mention that V.C. also took a turn behind the wheel?!? No kidding, and she did a marvelous job in first gear.

(BTW, that makes you N.G. to me )I think JC is pretty stoked about getting us on the track next time. I think it would be pretty cool to put CC's injen base up against a GT for example, although I think at our level driver skill (or error in my case) would have much more bearing on the results! And we could get VC up to the starting line, but let her go whenever she wants so she can preserve that all-important element of surprise.

Celica girl found the parts in town your better off asking her, The CAI does make your gt alot funner from what I hear. Next comes the exhaust as soon as there is room on the card I'm getting it. And trd the gt was cool in lift however I noticed that the base with Cai has a different pattern to applying power through the rpm band, I think I would get beat by the gt but not by much. Can't wait for the meet at the track, especially to change the score between me and Celica girl haha.

SWiRv (a.k.a. NG), Hope (that would be trdvibe) is right in that we still have a leg up with stock GTs - right CC? But I'm sure you're imagining, just as I am, adding that extra 10-15 HP and feeling it even in the lower RPMs....I think JC was CC's hook up for the Injen. When I get back from all my jet-setting at the end of May I'll be following JC around like a lost puppy dog to get an Injen in the Viberant Thing.
nah... sorry, there celtic, but even w/ the cai on a base, the gains are not near as much as a gt... you will see maybe 10 hp increase and poss 5 ft/lbs torque on a base. even with the little bit of low end torque, the gt will pull on the base w/ cai. just not a fair race. you'd have to add an exhaust, and take out any and all weight (like rear seats, spare tire, etc) and be a better driver than the gt driver to make it a close match. even when my gt was completely stock, you can still launch pretty high... may not have anything left of the clutch, but you'd be gone. lol.
YA your probably right..one can dream though Thanks to Keely for the test pilot on her Gt that was schweet!!! the meet was a great time lets all do it again.

On the 1/4 mile it all comes down to the driver... I've beaten a few GT-Ss and I've also seen some people with really fast cars drive really slow. One of the Edmonton OIlers took his Z8 to the track and ran 19 seconds....

Only way a stock GT could be beat by a base w/cai is GT driver error and not using lift. Now a Supercharged base Vibe with CAI would match the GT for HP and actually have more torque with all its power in the low end. The base would leave the GT behind till the end of the race were the GT could possibly catch up at that point.

I agree that the numbers all say that the GT is faster than the vibe there's no denying that.... just saying that when it comes down to us club members going to the track... there's gonna be some surprises... I've raced a few celica gt-s's who have hit lift in every single gear and still lost.Anyway... we'll see what happens at the track...For those of you who are interested in the Injen CAI I can run a group buy for you... I'm not sure what the rules are for group buys on this site but I'd be more than happy to do it on my forum. Once we get a final count of how many people want the intake I can get a price for you.
I want a Injen CAI Polished one if all possible. Please keep me informed I know the cosmo one has cheap ones but the injen one comes with a pretty high reputation.

Looks like you guys had a great meet. Too bad I couldn't make it. Let me know when you guys have another meet, and I'll do my best to make it. As for a CAI, I'd be interested.I remember a post that someone made about how Toyota deliberately underrated the base Vibe/Matrix/Corolla engine to 130 HP so that the Celica GT would have more rated HP (140). It's probably a marketing thing as it doesn't sound good to have a sports car have the same HP as a entry-level sedan.
Thanks KD. I'll have to talk to JC about the CAI. I think the window tinting and 3M bumper protection may be delayed if I go for the Injen. I also ordered the rear mudflaps and a rear bumper protector this morning .SWiRv (aka NG)

Ohhh... this would be good if people outside Calgary wanted in on the intake as well....I got CC intake for $350 tax in... so hopefully I can do better than that on the group buy.
Carrie can bring me one at the meet, free shipping lol. But yes please check those prices cause if there is no group discount then I might as well have the performance shop here get me one if the end price is the same.

Cool... well hopefully we can have it all wrapped up by then.... if not some of my parts guys have suppliers on the east and west coast... so shipping wouldn't be that expensive.
Quote, originally posted by StampedeVibe »Just another question about the CAI. If we install it ourselves, will that void the warranty? It only voids the waranty on parts that are impacted by the installation: the airbox, stock intake, filter, MAF sensor, and maybe the VSV -- as well as any warranty on a part that may fail as a result of that install. For example: if you forget to put a filter on your intake, sand or something is sucked in and seizes your engine, the repairs on that would be warranty-void, because the problem happened as a direct result of your installation.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
In that case, should we include by-pass valves in the CAI? We get pretty big thunder showers that occaisionally flood the streets here. Granted, it's a slim possibility, but it's there.
There are other threads out there which are more technically detailed, but in a nutshell: in the Vibe GT engine there is an extra set of cam lobes. When you spool up the engine to about 6500 RPM, it switches from the "low revving" profile to the higher one up to redline (8200RPM) which open up the valves more. That switch is the "lift" which you actually feel and hear. It's cool. It's addictive.
