If GM can do it with the Holden Monaro/Pontiac GTO, then why can't Ford? I am guessing they are not imported because it wouldn't be cost effective. The cars may need major revisions to meet US certification standards for safety and or emissions, plus the cost of shipping. They may also have capacity issues and do not want to divert that capacity to the North American market. Or they just don't think they would sell well.GM is importing the GTO built off the Manaro, but its really a stop-gap until they move the car to the Zeta platform in about 3 years. That GTO will be built in North America and be more of a tru GTO styling wise. They did the current GTO in a hurry just to get a 2 seater V8 coupe on the market to fill the hole left by the outgoing f-bodies.Rumor also has it that the Zeta platform will also spawn a new Camaro for the Chevy brand, which will be losely based on the GTO with different styling. From what I have seen it will offer a base 3.9L HV V6 (240 HP in the G6), and 2 levels of V8's, one of which pushing a ton of HP!
Boy would I like to have that engine in my Vibe!!!

I spotted the vehicle below in a "test vehicle" area of the automotive parts complex I work at, and wasn't sure what it was. At first, I thought it may be the Holden Ute, but after seeing the pic you posted, I brought my binoculars to work with me today and it's a Ford Falcon XR6. Don't know if it's the turbo version or not, but it's right hand drive, 4 wheel discs. Sharp looking car/truck.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6014
So I am new to the forum and new to the US. We have just bought a Vibe and so I joined the site. Of course being from where I am I would type in Australia to see what comes up and so I reading through this old tread.Few points: Reading from other sites and reviews all the things that Nth Am drives dislike about the Aussie made GTO are all the the things Pontiac change for the US market! As for safety standards in cars - trust me, the US may have lead the safety and EPA standards in car way be when, but now is a very different story. The Aussie cars are only retested due to the different US cladding put on the car.
A fantastic solution to a problem that need not exist!
