Down hill Assist is for people who don't know how to drive. Why would you want it?The 4runner has (what is equivalent to) an electonic locker. The Xterra is using a Dana Rear Axle (Might be a Dana 44), which can have a mechanical locker installed pretty easily. Personally, I have more faith in mechanical parts vs electronic parts. Mechanical parts have been in HEAVY use for the last couple of decades, whereas nobody really knows how long electronics are going to last - since they are so new.I have a friend who got a new 4runner this past summer. He paid nearly $40K for a fully loaded V8 model. A Fully loaded Xterra with "Everything you need, nothing you don't" should still cost under $30K (or so I am guessing). Sure the 4runner is nicer and has more options, but thats the way it should be when its $10K more.I looked at the 4runner before I got my Xterra. My sister and brother each have one. They both paid about $28-35K for theirs. (My brother has an SR5, and my sister has a limited) I paid only $23K for my Xterra and am very happy with it.See what Xterra's can do WITHOUT hill decent help:
