Daylight Savings Time this weekend - Spring Forward

Post by joatmon »

Spring forwarrd, fall back. 2AM - 3AM Sunday morning vanishes in a puff of magic.I hate losing the hour in the morning, but I rally like gaining the extra hour in the evening. There was already a Fall back discussion in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6678, but no Spring forward one yet

I never gain & never lose. We don't follow daylight savings time here, as the "line" runs right down the middle of the province, and no one will agree on what to do, so we do nothing. If you live on the east side, you'd like to follow Manitoba. If you live on the west side, you'd like to follow Alberta, and if you live in the middle, you like it just the way it is.Aren't there a few US states that don't follow DST either?

But I'm pretty sure that Arizona is the only state that doesn't participate.

Only parts of Indiana follow "Indiana Time."Quote » 76 counties (including state capital Indianapolis) are in the Eastern Time Zone but do not change to Daylight time in April; instead they remain on Standard Time all year long; [yellow on map and chart]11 counties -- six near Chicago, IL, and five near Evansville, IN, are in the Central Time Zone and use both Central Standard and Central Daylight; [red on map and chart] andfive other counties -- two near Cincinnati, OH, and three near Louisville, KY -- are in the Eastern Time Zone but use both Eastern Standard and Eastern Daylight. I finished changing all our clocks and found that one of our kitchen clocks doesn't participate with daylight savings. The wife is going to hear about this today.

I love having a computer as an alarm clock... at midnight it said 7 hours 30 mins to wake up at 8:30. Such smart little things..Annoying that the NAV system doesn't automatically do DST..you actually have to manually turn it on/off.

In Indiana it's not the 1 hour plus-or-minus that's a problem...It's the 20 years we're behind the times! The State Legislature is 'carefully considering' bringing Indiana into the 18th (19th? 20th?) Century by observing Daylight Savings Time. Since they can't decide by Sunday April 3rd, IF they pass a measure, it will take effect Sunday June 5th this year! The state legislature has been fighting about this for the past 30 years or so. Years ago, one state legislator said Indiana should NOT have daylight savings time, 'because the livestock would get confused' if we switched the clocks twice a year.Dropping into radio announcer voice...Welcome to the Great State of Indiana, home of the dumbest livestock and legislators in America!Maybe I shoulda posted this in Humor or Political Asylum!

As someone who lives in a part of the state that does change their clocks twice a year, I'm in favor of abolishing this barbaric ritual. It screws with my schedule, and my body gets all out of whack, which doesn't improve for quite some time. Plus, in the fall, the already long 12 hour shift I have to work turns into 13, since I'm working when the time changes at 2 AM. I actually envy you guys elsewhere in Indiana where you don't have to worry about that crap. Didn't the bill get whacked a couple months back? I didn't think I would see it back up so soon...You're right though, it is kinda backwards, compared to most of the country... But Indiana is pretty backwards itself, and all of our weird little quirks is why I live here.

Actually, if we could work it so we changed our clocks back both times, I'd be a major compaign donor Seriously, with other countries jumping on the bandwagon for some kind of daylight savings time (like Japan) it doesn't seem liekly to go away.

I'm alright with it in the fall because I get this extra hour of sleep, but spring absolutely kills me, and sometimes I don't feel like I'll ever recover from losing that hour of sleep. I walk around tired for at least a month or two before I ever begin to get used to it. But here lately I've been waking up at unnaturally early hours, so I dunno, maybe this year it won't be so bad...hopefully.Is it just me or is the switch day getting later and later every year, though? I seem to remember it used to always be Easter Sunday, and now for the last few years it's been a few weeks after Easter. Wonder why it changed...

It's just you Kari. The spring forward is "the first Sunday in April" The fall back is "the last sunday in october" However, Easter jumps around all over the place from year to year, I forget why and don't feel like googling it.

Spring forward, with 6-12" of snow, -- what a surprise. But as typical Ohio weather, it will be almost 50 degrees in 5 more hours so that 6-12" will be gone quick.

Indiana has finally joined the 19th Century, and adopted daylight savings time. Several Indiana counties (8, I think) are also switching from Eastern Time to Central Time. One of them, Pulaski County, petitioned to switch and then changed it's mind, so now, ONLY the official government offices in Pulaski County will observe the new time zone. The rest of the county will NOT observe the new time zone!!!

Yes, I welcome the rest of you Hoosiers to this barbaric ritual. It's a load of fun! I mean, just wait until Monday after the time changes in the spring and you try to deal with rush hour traffic and everybody wrecks because the friggin' sun is blinding them first thing in the morning whereas it was not on Friday. And if the sun doesn't blind them, they're still out of whack from losing an hour of sleep on Sunday night. Oh yes, daylight savings time promotes safety, youbetcha! And it really sucks when you have to work nights! My 12 hour shift became 13 here in the fall, and I never have to work during the spring change when I could actually get lucky, with the exception of this year - hooray! But anyway, while everybody else gets to enjoy that extra hour of sleep in the fall, I have to work. I've envied those elsewhere in Indiana for not participating in this crap, and have hated the fact that I live in one of the few counties that did participate. Have fun all you Indiana folks who are experiencing this! This year, I bet there's going to be a bunch of grumpy, angry people just a teensy bit to my north, I'd better stay put this weekend.

Blah, it's 3 AM, I'm supposed to leave at 3, but on this lovely night, I've technically only been here 7 hours, so I have to wait until 4 until I can leave so I can get the full 8 hours on my paycheck...
