"Pontiac "Vibe" Chrome License Plate Frame " on eBay FYI

Post by cdFxer »

I bought one of these several months ago. A quote from their eBay auction:"This frame is beautifully crafted from light-weighted Stainless Steel with a highly chrome polish finish. The letter or logo on the frame is laser cut from a piece of thin Brushed Aluminum plate attached on the frame. It looks and feels exactly like Etched. Our quality is much better than the cheap chrome frame selling on the market. It will give your car that sporty look with a touch of class. It can last long and have a high gloss look we have good relationship with factory dealer and sold Thousands to Dealer. Here's your chance to get this great product with a lot less than paying up to $40 retail price in dealer. "I guess it should have set of some warnings in my head. Like why, if it is stainless steel are they etching aluminum and mounting that to the stainless? You could do the entire operation from an industrial laser (I know, I work on them, lol). Well mine has a few months of weathering on it and it is rusting! Pretty good trick for stainless....Just a warning! I will be emailing them my displeasure....Oh yes, sorry if this does not belong in this forum section. If it is the wrong place, I hope the powers that be put it where it needs to go Thanks!

that's too bad it turned out to be low quality. Hopefully the ad was accurate and you paid "a lot less than paying up to $40"

Quick update: It has been almost a week and no response from the seller. I took a closer look and it is rusting all over it! Guess I will be taking it off and tossing it in the scrap bin at work.....

Is that the same one found on Pontiac's site? I bought one from there probably a year or so ago... Was $34 + shipping, and well, still is. Last summer's average of one wash per week and this winter's salt didn't hurt it too much. Had to give it a good waxing after the winter, it did get kinda dull. No actual rusting of the frame itself, except that some is on the surface where those rusty bolts are holding it on, which waxes off. The paint has remained good on the Vibe logo although the Pontiac arrowhead faded to this funky shade of PINK, but then again, the arrowhead on the hatch faded into that similar color... (wish I had a garage!) Sorry to hear yours turned out to be a disappointment... Hope you can find a way to get your money back or some other remedy...
