Just got back from a marathon trip to New Orleans in the Vibe. It was 1400 miles from here in Colorado and I averaged around 33MPG doing anywhere from 65-80MPH. The passengers included the wife and two dogs along with our luggage on the way down but added a gas powered pressure washer on the way back. Amazingly I fit all of this inside the car. I also came up with a great set up for the passenger that allowed her to sleep for most of the non stop trip. I seperated the luggage from the mid part of the car by attaching a rubber "Airgate" to the metal loops on the sides. In the mid part of the car I have the dog beds so that they can crash out. When it's time to sleep we folded the passenger seat flat which allowed my wife to put her pillow by the airgate and extend out with her legs on the flat part of the passenger seat. She slept like a baby and when I needed a rest she drove and I took a nap or read a book. I should have taken a picture as it was a great set up. This was our 2nd long trip in the Vibe, last year we travelled to Michigan which was about 20 hours. The New Orleans trip took about 22 hours.
Good to hear the trip went well! How was New Orleans? My two buddies and I are going there for spring break next month. March 21 - 27 Any suggestion on good places to go (Resturants, Bars, ect) for 3 college kids?
‘03 Vibe with 317k and still going.............................
I also took the Vibe to Mardi Gras this year, although from Dallas. Only two of us were in my car, so two thermorests (camp pads) in the rear make a perfect place to sleep while travelling. We had a hotel room in town!

Good Restaurants in the French Quarter: ACME Oyster House, Andrew Yaegers, Cafe Maspero. You may want to venture Uptown also if you want to hang out at some colleg bars. Take the trolley down St Charles avenue and hit Fat Harry's at the corner of St Charles and Napoleon. On this corner there is also a Copeland's seafood restaurant, very good. If you take the trolley to the end of St Charles you will be at the intersection of Carrolton and St Charles, There is a bar here called Cooter Brown's that has oyster's on the half shell. If you like to drink, then by all means make sure you get a daquiri at tye ubiquitous daquiri shops. You can actuall drive through and order them to go. The other neat thing about New Orleans is that if you don't finish your adult beverage you can get a "to-go" cup and finish outside. There are no open container laws. A fun place in the french quarter is PAt Obrien's where they serve the original hurricanes. If you like to gamble Harrah's casino is right on Canal street and is walking distance from the French Quarter. The Aquarium is just across the street from Harrah's also. You might also want to take a swamp tour or riverboat cruise. HAve fun.
