dog crate

Post by ullbergm »

Anybody use dog crates for their dogs in the vibe? If so, what type do you use? Do you have/want to have room for luggage when the dog/dogs are in there?Do you use/want to have a wire mesh type or a plastic enclosed?I'm working on a design for one since i havent found one that i like.I want one that will keep the dogs from scratching the interior, ie. one thats fully enclosed, not one thats just a fence between the front and the back.Any suggestions on what to keep in mind when im working on the design? What would your dream crate look like?

I'd like to keep my dog ( small Maltz ) in the cargo area when we take her to the vet or groomer. Here's my dream crate:A piece of crate fence attatched to rails on the back of the backseats and I can pull it up as I need it.

Here's a nice little dog barrier someone posted a while back. I forget who it was. I recently designed and built a larger dog barrier for the Vibe that works with the back seat down. I'll post pics as soon as I get a chance.

What kind/size of dog do you have? I use a collapsable/folding wire mesh type crate for my large dog, but it doesn't fit in the Vibe when opened up unless I fold the back seats down, so I don't bother. If I need the back seats for people, then the crate gets tied to the roof rack, if not I usually fold the crate up, take the headrests off the back seats and use the crate as a dog fence between the front seats and the folded rear seats.

I have a Corner Pin Crate 24"D x 21"H x 20"W that I got from Petsmart for my dog. (link HereIt fits pretty good with just the passenger back seat folded up. We then can put luggage beside it.Here is a link to pictures of my dog (and cat). (The bottom is the most recent picture of Chloe)
