A little background for those new here -- a few of the early 2003 Matrix and Vibes were prone to have dead (not weak) batteries after a cold night, and in one or two cases this was pinned on headlights that came on mysteriously due to cold. Toyota has a TSB suggesting replacement of the headlight switch. My Vibe was built summer 2002 and twice was dead after cold nights. I verified that the map lights were off, an easy mistake. After a long tow at GM expense, the dealer in Colorado found no cause. This month (2/2004) I mentioned the Toyota TSB to my Oregon dealer, and Pontiac still has no TSB. But the dealer called GM's tech center and my switch was replaced under warranty. I hope that will fix it.
The looking glass on top of my Vibe's battery no longer has the green ring inside. It is dark, which means it needs recharging. I am having my dealer test its output when I have the rest of my '04 cladding put on.
I doesn't mean the battery needs charging. It means that there is a problem in that one cell, it's an indicator. You should ask that it be replaced. In respect to the 'green eye', AC Delco is phasing it out as a design feature of it's batteries because it is a source of alot of warrantee issues. No eye, no knowing if the battery is in danger of 'underperforming'! Fewer claims, more sales!
