My parents had this happen to them in their van. They had to replace some of the wiring as the lighter continued to heat up until it melted some wires and the fuse blew. Sounds like you have the same problem. Hopefully the fuse blew before anything melted. The console receptacle is probably on the same fuse so it will be out as well.

I also had the same thing happen to my old 93 Cavalier. The whole socket pulled out (in tact) but couldn't remove the plug from the socket. Had to have the whole receptacle replaced. This was when I used a cigarette-lighter adapter for my cell phone.

You can try turning the receptacle around while you pull the lighter out. This already happened to me on the second day I had the car. Just don't force it or you will pull the receptacle out with the wiring.
Yes, this happened to us after about a week. It was entirely possible that my wife left the lighter pushed in and shut the car down, once the car was cold we were able to pull it out and it seems fine now. It has not had a problem since and I often use the outlet to charge my cellphone. switching from the charger to the lighter is no problem, but I'm careful not to push the lighter all the way in.If yhou have your dealer look at this I'd love to hear what they did to fix things.

Check the fuse box under the steering column. This happended to me 2 wks ago. My Vibe was broken into and all of my stereo equipment was stolen. In the process while "yanking" my amp and subs out of the car. The remote wire to my subs sent a power suge toward the battery and the front of the car. That fried some fuses including my lighter and rear defrost. The guys at Circut City noticed it when the radio wasn't working when they re-installed it.
