I was out running errands and when i returned to my car...I couldn't open the door I kept hitting the unlock button but nothing. I first thought my husband was messing with me by locking right as I unlocked but that wasn't the case. Finally, I was able to get the car to unlock with the keyless entry. It really weirded me out. I figured I'll take the car in if it does it again. As I pulled out the lot, I noticed another Vibe and I wonder could that be what was causing the unlocking problem...some weird conflict maybe?? Has anyone encountered this??
Actually it has happened to me too and no other car near by. I pushed the unlock button and nothin i kept walking forward and stopping and trying again but didnt work until I was right infron of the car. Dont know why. Anyone know where the receiver is at for the controller? I just go my windows tinted on Saturday 10% on hatch and back seat and 20% (yeah its illegal) on the front. If reciever is inside I guess that could be why if not Im clueless.

I would expect the most likely cause fo the remote unlock not working well would be the battery in the remote. I would not expect being around another Vibe to have any effect, unless by some fluke your remote happened to unlock the other vibe also. There was some info in the 2003 Vibe FAQ that I got from GM when I bought my car, it says:Quote »How does my Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) (optional feature) work? This feature can lock and unlock your doors and lift glass from 3 feet up to 30 feet. At times you may notice a decrease in range. This is normal for any remote keyless entry system. If the transmitter does not work or if you have to stand closer to your vehicle for the transmitter to work, try this:- Check the distance. You may be too far from your vehicle. You may need to stand closer during rainy or snowy weather.- Check your location. Other vehicles or objects may be blocking the signal. Take a few steps to the left or right, hold the transmitter higher when you are pressing the buttons.- Check to determine if your transmitter's battery needs replacement. The receiver is located inside, up and forward of the rear storage area by the paseenger side tail light. I would be very surprised if window tint would affect it's range. It is a radio device, and it is possible that there was some other radio signal that was jamming your remote's signal. Does it behave normally everywhere else? If you go back to the same parking lot, does it act up again? Do you have a second remote you can try?
I was concerned about my range once, asked the dealer about it...He said the range can be significantly decreased if there is water, ice, snow, etc. on the body of the car -- it can interfere with the radio signal. Weird how it works, but it does seem whenever the car is wet or snow covered, range is sucky. But also try a new battery? Those factory batteries seem kinda crappy.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Sounds really funky I know, but try "aiming" the remote at your chin then unlocking/locking. You get better range! I doubted this when I first read about it too, but Ive tried it several times with my Silverado and our Vibe--and it works!
I have also noticed that occasionally, my key fob doesn't work several times. Most of the time, my range is pretty good. I noticed that when I leave my key fob in my pocket, occasionally the lock button gets wedged into the fob housing so that it's constantly pushed in. Shaking the fob or pushing the unlock button hard enough flexes the fob housing and frees the lock button. The next time this happens to you, try to flick the other two buttons to make sure they are not pushed in and stuck. I only noticed this because my lock button stuck early on and I noticed as I was walking away from the car, the lights kept flashing. Every time I've had a problem since then, the lock button is stuck.

A month ago, my key fob wouldn't work at all to unlock the doors, but the second key fob worked fine. I thought it must be the battery in the key fob, but before I got a chance to change the battery, a few days later it started working again and I haven't had a problem with it. If it were a computer, one might call it a bug (and Bill Gates would call it a feature), but I figured it probably was a loose connection to the battery that must have fixed itself when I was carrying it around.
