Hatch won't latch during winter...

Post by huy397 »

I've got a problem with my hatch... it won't catch the latch.( hat's a mouthful...Sometimes, when I open the hatch, there was no "click", the door simply opens as it the door did not latch. It never happened before during summer. Now that I applied a little de-icer to the hatch, everything is fine now.Anyone experiencing this too ?thanks

We have similar problems when the mercury plummets. This is also a problem on my third (rear) door on my GMC pick-up.

Update:Looks like the problem's gotten worse... since the weather is simply unhumanly cold, -52C today and will be close to -60 tomorrow. ( with wind chill of course... )I just found out that I can't even turn the key when I insert the key into the hatch. I don't know how if this is related to the weather though as I probably only used my key to open any door around 5 times ( if not less ).Anyway, I will drop off my Vibe at the dealer tomorrow morning and see what they have to say and report back tomorrow.I am also having them check the battery, so I might get a new battery too.... *fingers crossed*Later.

Apparently everything is frozen and that's to blame here.I just found out none of the doors ( all 5 ) won't close properly because the insulation "tube" were all frozen, that's why the door won't close. There were some ice with rear door latch, it all melted as soon as Frosty got into the heated shop.Battery is fine... just as I anticipated. Hope the TSB comes out soon, especially given this ultra-cold weather

Well I found out why we had trouble closing the hatch. It had nothing to do with the -32c temp., that was pure coincidence. The problem was the cargo carpet had slid back and was being compressed by the moulding when the hatch was closed.
