Does the Vibe/Matrix have a fuel return line?

Post by ExoticPerformanceP »

We have an out of town customer who has a Vibe, and is looking at having us install an ATI ProCharger on his car. ATI makes a generic sport compact supercharger that we might be installing on this car. With the supplied intercooler, I am sure we could up the horsepower by 65 to 75%. We have seen similiar gains on a lot of other installs that we have done. We would either have to install an FMU of go with computer tuning. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks, Bob. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com

Not sure if this helps, but according to the service manual:Quote »The fuel pressure regulator is located inside of the fuel tank and is part of the fuel sender assembly. Locating the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel tank eliminates the need for a return line from the fuel rail. A returnless system reduces the internal temperature of the fuel tank resulting in lower evaporative emissions.

Good find, Mike.I would add that if you have had any experience with tuning 2003 and newer Corollas, they have the same drivetrain as the base model Vibe/Matrix. Might be the same as recent years of Celica GT's as well, but I'm not positive on that. If it is a Vibe GT you are working on, they have the same drivetrain as the Celica GTS. You may be able to cross-reference some things with this info. Also, you may have better responses to this question by posting in our "forced induction" forum. Also try http://www.matrixowners.com as some Matrix owners have already supercharged and turbocharged their cars. The Matrix is Toyota's sister car to the Vibe, in case you didn't already know this. Good luck!

Most new cars don't have a return fuel line. It's an emissions issue. It makes turbo/sc installations more difficult becuase you can't install a rising-rate fuel pressure regulator and use some of the fuel that would normally go back to the tank to supplement boost.

Thanks, Bob. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com no, there is no return fuel line on the Vibe....I have a turbo on my Vibe , and so I know this story so well,,,...Stafford Fabrications set me up with their fuel kit, they managed to engineer using an FMU in this resturnless set up , which you know , that you are suppose to have a return fuel line to use...in my picture you can see the fmu just to the right of the fuel rail.....You might want to contact them and see if they will sell you their kit, it also comes with a fuel pump...if not , they also make a new fuel rail that has an endplug so that you can add your own return fuel line if you want...some guys just add a line back to the filler tube. ....I have been boosting for about a year now , and the fmu idea is the most economical and can use stock injectors...If you want to go to computer, Split Seconds has some A/f units , and timing units as well that work with this toyota motor, these are piggy backs..any way you can reach SF in regard to the fuel kit they made for me at 661-816-5444 or e mail at Staffordfabrication@yahoo.com.....

also the greddy e-manage is a reasonably priced piggyback computer that works very well.(youll still need larger or supplemental fuel injectors.

Any one know what the supercharger kit from TRD does with fuel delivery. Do they change the pressure or injectors?? I would assume if the are stuffing air in they will need fuel to go with it.

I remember reading (somewhere) that the SC included a fifth injector. You may also find some clues in the GM SC install instructions, tbm34 posted the link in thread 7624, it's http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/pe...7.pdf

ours arent drive bt wire thats a 03 04 celica thing why? just the celica, i dont know. the power fc is also celica(jdm) specific though with a harness change and some conjoling it may work on matrixes. i havent found out yet if the vibes ecu is actually different from toyotas so i wouldnt go trying a 1000 dollar stand alone just yet. the emanage is generic enough to work because the setup and sensors are the same though the programing may not be . plus it should work well enough for a third the price. on a related note trd also sells its extra injector setup for retrofiting on already supecharged 4runners tundras etc.(very pricey) it promises 40 more horsepower on the v8 charger, while our supercharger barley makes that period.interesting little tidbit.
