Supercharger Availibility?

Post by tbm34 »

Has anyone heard about the availability of the SC for the base manual 5-speeds. According to the SEMA posting from 11-06-03 they were working on some minor revisions because of wheel hop and it would be out in a couple weeks. I have contacted GM directly and several local dealers, and as usual they are totally clueless and evasive.

The most recent info I could find was from 10-22-03. quote:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Auto only. Wow. That sux. Wonder why that is. The SC for the Matrix is for both transmissions. I wonder what the difference is? /QUOTE]The difference is that GM cares about the massive wheel hop problem that occurs with the 5 speed manual and the Supercharger, Toyota doesn't (which is why they released the SC for both). GM is currently working on new suspension bushings that will eliminate the wheel hop problems. They are working on it, and it will be released for the Base 5 speed soon enough. Don't go thinking GM doesn't care about their 5-speedersAlso, the reason the GM SC took a little while longer was because they use different ECMs. GM had to make different adjustments to their ECM programs than toyota did.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------BLEH! I went to Bocherding Pontiac here in Cincinnati and the Parts guy called GM Performance parts to ask why the 5 speed engine code version wasn't showing up. We didn't get any more detail than "not available at this time". Well, if it's not available by the spring, I'll be looking for a Subaru dealer that will take this slow thing on trade for a nice WRX wagon...

From what I have recently been told, the SuperCharger is available for the Vibe Auto and 5-Speed transmissions at this time. The SuperCharger kit is the same for both, but the modules the dealer will have to order is different depending on transmission. Dealers should be able to look up this information with no problems.

I don't know what the US price is for the supercharger but someone I was talking to at Toyota near me who I am buying a TRD OBX manual performance Matrix shifter from said he could have his dealership install a Super Charger on my Vibe for me for about $4500.Call Toyota cause GM seems to be so clueless. (and that hurts to say cause I work at a GM dealership ) The guy at Toyota in parts had all the answers I was looking for, had a very good product knowledge and knew the specs it changes your base Vibe to when done. He could give me parts numbers to but I would not be able to use them through my GM parts department cause they would be different. But the Super Charger is out, they have installed a few that as pissed off the Celica owners cause they are getting smoked heh. The guy was even explaining some how its installed with a fifth injector for more fuel instead of the standard 4 and everything. I was very impressed. For a split second I almost wished I bought a Matrix lol

So we a good install quote from a local dealer I went down to the dealer parts department today with money in hand to order the SC. I gave him the part number and told him he needed to order the module for the 5 spd Manual Base. He could not find any distinction and after dialing all he secret numbers and codes to contact GM Performance parts directly, he was told that it is only available for the Base automatic. Are you sure about the info you received? I’m so fed up with GM. On the PDF instructions for the SC install, they even have specific instructions for installation on manuals.
