Wax plastic?

I have a nice new vibe..fusion orange..I read the forum and used the right wax(Meguiars).now..a question..my car is monochrome..do I wax the plastic?

I wax my monotone cladding frequently - really makes it shine with the rest of the steel body. No issues.I use the same wax on the cladding as I do for the rest of the vehicle. Just be sure to keep it off any rubber/black plastic parts to avoid the wax markings that may result when it dries.I would also recommend mud flaps to help keep road debris from marking the lower cladding. I installed them on my Vibe when it was purchased (July '02) and it still looks virtually brand new (except in areas not protected by the flap/in direct contact with road debris). As long as you keep it maintained you should have no problems.

Wax away my good brothers and sisters on all painted surfaces. anything that is shiney can be waxed. Don't forget to polish your Chrome exhaust tip with a good chrome polish! and by all means to all the two-toners out there stay away from that nice grey rough plastic. Wax will make it look like SHEEEEEEEEEYAAAAAT! Use a nice Armorall or Back to Black on that. it'sll make it nice and shiney and not give you a nasty white look! Happy washing and waxing.Also in the Nasty winter montha I find it a good I dea to wax the car at least once a month, more often if it is a bad winter. th wax will protect the paint from all the salts and road debris. Not to mention it will make it easier to clear the snow off.later all and enjoy the winter!

I have to agree that waxing in the winter months is very important. I have stressed this before. You have to be especially careful to wash the car very well before you wax it, though. Salt crystals always cleave with sharp edges and you don't want to grind things with sharp edges into your paint. I like to make sure that I flush out the wheel wells with the hose also so that salt doesn't accumulate in there and cause rust from inside the wheel wells.Several people here (myself included) have noticed that when you wax the plastic of a monotone Vibe you may get the color of your paint on the rag when you remove the wax. This is because the plastic body parts are not clearcoated and are treated instead with a special flex agent in the paint. The paint on the plastic parts must be more flexible or else it would split and crack when those body panels get bumped. So don't be alarmed if the color comes off a little on the rag.
