How much $$ would you spend to buy a turbo kit for your car?

Post by Faultline »

I guess I am thinking about the SF kit on my car specifically...or at least one like it:T3 turboexhaust manifolddown pipeblowoff valve9"x19" intercooler w/ all the plumbing fuel set up that can deliver over 300hp, ( for those who want to build their car)oil lines and fittings.most of the kit is 3yr warranty on parts , except the turbo is 1yr.the kit adds 80hp to 100hp the way it is set up now, according to my two dynoes. at around 8psi...the cheapest I have seen it offered is 2900.00 at a group buy on Matrixowners...which I think is very reasonable, especially since I think alot of people were a bit disappointed with the power increase of the SC #'s..at a similar price..BUT! my question is not how much the kit is worth, instead, it is "How much $$ would YOU spend to put a kit on your Vibe/matrix?"....for some of you, it would be "NO!" even if the kit was donated to you!...maybe because of warranty issues...I would like to hear that, if that is the case....but I would like to know..."if i only had to pay _____$$ ...then I'd get one because blah, blah , blah......."

staffords kit and the others are at 3500 dollars i believe. that is pretty reasonable and i'd gladly pay that when i get the money. i think a lot of people would buy these kits at the price thier at provided they have that kind of money to spend on it and not something they deem more worthwhile. the auto charger is out now but noone here rushed the dealer and got it on like those few matrix owners.i guess the holiday seasons is a bad time to spend that cash on your car, unless its a gift!!! boy you and matrix-t love your turbos dont ya.by the way have you gotten any of those upgrades yet.... that billet fuel rail looks tight!
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!

yeah,,,I mean no, ...I mean..well..I got to hold the fuel rail in my hand...but no, it's not in the car yet...I still need to get guages put in my car..LOL..and a new exhaust...and maybe the alcahol injection..I am waiting for things to slow down over there so I can have a nice window to get my car in overthere...and yeah, I think of tthat if a lot of guys drove my car, they would have to get one

I'd gladly pay the $3500 if there were a instalment payments. Getting a lump sum of that amount is not that easy for most people.

I would love a turbo for the Vibe but with all the work and money and you don't get too much out of it...I would rather just buy a project car for $3500 that would have more power than the Vibe even with the turbo.

You've got a good point I've allways dreamed of owning a Datsun 260zx or 280zx though. So after buying the new pistons, fuel system, turbo, and everything else, how much does it cost to turbo charge the Vibe and drive it without worrying about the engine blowing up?

So you're saying I wouldn't have to buy any pistons or anything to turbo charge? I have no clue how to change the internals, but if you only need new fuel system and stuff I would be able to do it myself

There is a bit of changing around in the engine bay, but I am told that the biggest bear is taking off the oil pan....You have to do do this to drill a hole for the oil return line fitting...the kit comes with the turbo attached to the manifold, the intercooler plumbing winds it way around everything, and the intercoller fits easilly in the front... in the picture you can see a short ram w/ a blue filter leading toward the turbo. where the stock airbox was..the Mas has a new bracket welded into IC plumbing right before the Throttlebody which also has a place for the bov. the down pipe is connected to the turbo and will fit right up to the stock exhaust....the fuel kit has an FMU designed to work w/ our returnless system. ..it comes w/ a fuel pump and a lot of little gizmo switches and check valves....it pluggs into the fuel line right before the fuel rail..it has 3 electrical lines ,,..thats it....The thing about the the fuel kit is that it doesnot come on, until you go into boost..so the ecu runs every thing as normal...but when the fuel kit senses intake manifold pressure, it kiks in....the car's MAS can read all the air going it, but cannot cope with the amount of fuell it needs to go along with all the air going in...so the fuel kit gives calibrated amount of fuel based on manifold pressure....when the pressure is vaacum, the ecu runs everything like normal....when boosted at 7psi, the fuel kit adds the fuel needed...it runs on the rich side to prevent predetonation..which is bad...so it works pretty cool....and safe...

That's way to complicated for me...I think I'll just stick with what I can do myself like the exhaust and CAI unless someone wants to put a turbo in for me
