Went with the AC Delco filter with Havoline Full synthetic at the 2000 mile mark.Interesting observation about Vibe oil filters. I noticed that AC Delco uses the same filter for both the Base and GT Wereas Purolator uses a different filter for each.
Since you put in synthetic, how many miles do you think you will go before your next oil change?I haven't seen the two purolator filters side by side, but am assuming that the GT one is bigger. Do you know if the AC Delco one is closer to the purolator base or GT filter?
Hi Craig...Yeah, I noticed the same thing with Fram through the Wal-Mart computer thingie. I posted somewhere where the (Fram) size one computer suggested for the 2zz Engine was the 3614 but a book showed it required the 4967 for both GT and Base. I found the 3648 which had the same footprint as the 4967 but was about 3/4" longer, so I used that. As far as the Purolator, I think the numbers were 14477 and 14476, The 14477 box was taller but I didn't compare filter to filter. And I've actually only found the 14477 at one of the 5 places I checked. I'm gonna guess that the difference is similar to the difference I found in the Fram 3648 and 4967, the only difference being one is a little longer.I was told by another member a long time ago that as long as it fits, it's ok to use a bigger filter. I may switch to the Purolator 14477 but for now I have to use up the 3 other filters I bought trying to find out which fit and which didn't.Dave
joatmon: I've been using Mobil 1 from the start on my AWD. I use Purolator's best oil filter, and was doing oil changes at 7,500 mile intervals. My mechanic said to back off of that a bit, so I may do it every 6,000 now.
Hi Wicked...When I started doing my own oil changes on my old Ford Ranger, I switched to Synthetics because well, I was saving the money doing it myself so I figured it wasn't too expensive to do. Back then Mobil 1 was $14 or $15 for a 5 Quart jug. The truck ran near flawlessly for the 3 years I was using it.My first oil change I went to a fast lube place and insisted on Mobil 1, since then I have gone to 2 dealers and done the changes myself always buying my own oil then taking it in to have them do it. One dealer in South Carolina said it was the best thing to do for the vehicle. I would go to Wal-Mart, buy a 5 quart jug (5w-30) of Full Synth Mobil 1 and take it to the dealer and have them use the oil you purchase. You could also get some of the specialty oils advertized here which will only be that much better for your vehicle (and at a slightly higher cost as well). Go Synthetic, your Vibe will love you for it...Dave
