Hello All..First Time poster long time lurker...LOL...Being an old(32yrs old) Hot Rodder,I just cant stand how lethargic my Vibe is..I'm gonna put some giggle gas on her...I need to know where I can get a Tach feed or a RPM sensing wire so I can activated the NOS...I will keep you all informed on actual track times and weather conditions for each "mod" I do...My baseline pass with everything in street trim(full tank of gas) and BOTH baby seats in it,she went a 17.75@76 mph in nice cool dry air with a 5 mph tail wind....Ive installed a tivision auto cold air kit,But my track wont reopen until January...I will make some runs first without the gas then some with it....Oh by the way its a hidden kit..I can send pics if needed HEHE ... Thanks for any and all help and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! Roger
Pick it up directly from the ECM, under the dash, passanger side. The tach is located in the lowest row of wiring (the 4th one) and if I remember well, it is the 4th wire (for sure it is in the 10 1st wire). The tach is a back wire with silver dot.
another vibe with juice! 17 flat stock 16.2 juice. 5 speed, quarter tank, crappy 16's inchers, and 3000 clutch drops. most people with automatics dont bother with window switches. i havent had a problem on my stick without one.did you change out your plugs for a colder heat range
look my sniggies, i had a strizz-oke in my brizz-ain okay, you know what im saying. so i cant move all good. but thanks for mentioning that .thank you very much.athf4evr. click here! you know you want to!!!
Yes I will be doing all the tricks...Im coming from a mustang racing background,So Im not a total idiot(I dont mean 13 sec mustangs either) ..I just had my second kid and I am taking a break from racing until she gets to be 2 or 3 years old then Ill be right back to it...I wanna try and get this thing into the 13s and no Im not afraid of the juice...So this should be intersting...LOL.... Im gonna do all of my testing while Im still sponsored thru Pontiac....ROFL!!!! Thanks,Roger
http://64.177.149.228/roger.htm,,Heres one of my old cars..It eventualy had nitrous and the blower and it ran rather well..Granted all this happened back in 2000....Lata,Roger
it will take a lot more than nitrous to get a 13 sec auto vibe. your better off taking the drivetrain from a mustang cobra and putting it in the vibe

you should also check out faultline's base vibe and lancer's. faultline has a turbo and i think lancer added a nos? can't remember. i have a gt and kinda screwed until they come up with something more reliable that won't blow the engine up....
Getting into the 13's I think is a good goal in this car, but right now I am worried about the tranny....The guy who put the turbo on my car, has done further testing on the 1zz motor, and even the 2zz, on the celica platform,....he dynoed a gt,1zz, at 250 hp on stock internals, and that guy got to the mid 14's at 3000ft...maybe with better traction he would get to the 13's...but this week he tuned the car to about 270 or 280hp to the wheels on stock internals....he was in 3rd gear...and wasnt shifting...just pulling hard...and the tranny broke...clankety clank.... ,,..this was just a few days ago,...so exactly what happend to the tranny, i dont know...but heres the thing, ...a gt-s made 13.4 putting around 230 hp to the ground, but this after he sved .9 seconds be adding a new clutch, lsd, and drag radials , but right now i am worried about the tranny

hes got an auto. thats not going to cut it.plus were heavier than celicas.

Even if I dont make the 13s,It will make for some good reading...LOL!!!! Merry Christmas...By the way I heard the same thing when I was working on my SOHC mustang motor until she went in the 11s on radials..... Thanks,Roger
its not the whole car its the tranny that cant handle that amount of power.the engine can be built up to dish it out, right until second gear shatters your axles snap and a maroon stream flows from under the car! rwd is much easier to lay that power down

Saturn9,,I beleive thats why the track has oil dry!!!Or is that being saved for the fast domestics?????ROFL!!!!I used to blow trannies up all the time when I racing constantly it seems C4s dont like 700hp with nitrous, either,so I got real good at building them...Prolly like I will my Vibe tranny.. Im gonna be trying to adapt some of the domestic stuff to my vibe and see how she works out..as far as nitrous tunes and Im gonna try and get a piggyback to tune the timing and fuel curves...I believe that with the right timing curve and maybe a progressive these little motors will handle alot of juice and so will the tranny..... Lata,Roger
1) Prior experience with nitrous,2) DOSEN'T CALL NITROUS "NOS" 3) Willing to experiment4) Willing to live with the results of #35) Not seeking board approval and/or following the pack.I'd say he his 13.99 with the progressive's help. You can rebuild solenoids right? Good luck and have fun. I'm coming from a 98 Cobra that ran a 150 shot of nitrous. I was suppose to break that tranny too...
Thanks for the understanding Fusion GT,,There seems to be alot of guys saying it cant be done and very few trying to get it done..Im quite impressed with Faultline and MR. Staffords attempts...I will probably end up going the turbo route before its all over.. Yes I can rebuild selenoids and If it works out I will be running a pair of the for each just for safety..The reason Im running a window switch is so anyone can just hit the button and hang on...My 99 was like that anyone could run an 11 in it.... Lata,Rog
No prob Rog, I know exactly how you feel. I'm going to have to live through you on this one. I've promised my wife I won't go wild with a brand new car I don't know what my next project will be, but I'd really like to compete in GRM's $200x challange. Building a car's easy when you throw a bank at it. I'd like to see how well I do when I'm forced to do it on the cheap. I was joking about rebuilding the solenoids, since they wear out faster on progressive controllers and all. Good call on the window WOT switch. Those F&F wheel-mounted activation buttons look cool, but as you already know being able to stand on the gas and be done with it is the better way to go.
Joatmon, no question is dumb.A Window switch allows you to activate a device within a certain RPM range. The switch will either use RPM 'pills' that are also used in shift lights and some tachometers, or have integrated selector knobs. The three main benefits would be:1) RPM-based nitrous control (Don't spray too low, don't spray too high, turn off before fuel cut)2) Repeatability (you know when the nitrous is spraying3) Adjustability (you can vary your activation point to suit different track conditions) EDIT While we're talking about things, the progressive controller we're talking about allows even more control. With it, you can set initial/final nitrous spray rates (as a percentage of your total system ability) and ramp up to the set maximum. The nicer ones also allow you to dictate how much time it will take to go from minimum to maximum. This is how Rog will will keep from ripping the transmission in half (we hope ). He can install for instance a 100hp shot and ramp it from 25 to MAX to avoid the shock load to the transmission.Kudos to anyone who wants (or better yet tries to assemble) a turbo or supercharged car, but do not overlook nitrous...
You're right on track ragingfish. Here's a link to a new version for '04. This is what anyone here should be using. MSD Digital RPM SwitchIf you want full control over what your nitrous system is doing, something like this is nice to have... Nitrous Express Maximizer

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
Silverawd26,We're all hitting this thread so quickly that the sequencing is a bit off. I was answering this...Quote, originally posted by Ragingfish »I agree joatmon, but rather, what is an "MSD Window Switch" cause i'm guessing MSD has something to do with it...As for the NAIAS, I never go. I hate the little rat hole Detroit calls a convention center. I'm from Chicago, and I go to their show in Feb each year. Better experience and I get to see family. I got my Vibe in August so all the spring/summer meets had passed. I am looking forward to doing some things in the warmer months to meet people.
Yeah, back on topic For anyone who may be interested, a quality progressive controler would have the window switch we're talking about included. No need to have both.
Quote, originally posted by FusionVGT »Joatmon, no question is dumb.Well, I'm not sure about that, I can think of a couple, some I have asked, but that's off topic, so I won't go into that hereThanks for the explanation, I was thinking it might be something like that because of the tie in to the tach signal. I tend to be more interested in keeping the car going for the highest number of years instead of at the highest number of MPH, but the busybody in me couldn't let it go without knowing what you were all talking about.
I have been using Nitrous on my cars(daily and race) for 13 years and have never(lemme find some wood here) never had a nitrous related failure...Have I blown motors and trannied up yes,I have but that was all HP related, trying to runn 300 hp on a stock roller block 5.0 isnt the hot ticket for durability..LOL..But it is for street racing...I think nitrous is given a badrap from just plain and simple miscunseption(spelling?)...Just like a blower and turbo you need fuel and you need timing retard... No leeme (removed) off some people here..The only and I mean the only reason turbos are better than nitrous is you can force a motor to be larger(boost) than it wants to take,But you cant force a motor to use more nitrous than it can...Sure you can put the 200 pills on your celica, is it gonna take it...NO atleast not all at once...Thru Dyno testing weve found that nitrous will actually become a fog over top a carbeurator of a motor once it cant ingest anymore. A turbo is only limites to fin angle and size, granted its more comlicated than that, but its just a generalization.... Why do I think Nitrous is better than turbo and supercharger easy...stress....Your only adding the stress for 15 or less seconds at a time and set up correctly its foolproff!!!And when you do hurt a motor cause of nitrous its alot cheaper(normally) to fix..Ever seen a combustion chamber when A turbo motor goes lean???It aint pretty...This ought to keep us talking for awhille...Again Im not trying to poop in your cornflakes, just trying to motivate....
