any reassurance I could receive before my base anual vibe is delivered later this month would be appreciated To be honest, the clutch problem cited in this forum thread (http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5172) (sorry I am not sure how to create hyperlink within this post)is the first criticism of the vibe that concerns me. Unfortunately I did not discover genvibe until after I ordered my car and other resources never addressed the clutch issue so I never put the heat on the dealer about what appears to be fairly common clutch problemsI prefer not to start another thread re problems others have encountered as the main thread I noted above addresses the problems more than adequately - I am fishing here just to hear if a clutch reapir is not necessarily a given in the early years and miles of my soon to be delivered Vibe

If you know how to drive a clutch and not burn it up by slipping the hell out of it, you shouldn't have any problems.

I'll be honest. I've gotten the lovely clutch smell more times than i'd like to admit, but as of yet, (13k later), I don't have any clutch slippage. The 6 spd is a little clunkier in the shifting than my old Probe, so i'm still trying to get used to flipping through the gears.I'd be fairly confident with the clutch. No worries, mate.

My GT took some getting used to,but has given me no problems.I have driven several base manuals, and the clutch seems smoother in them.I may be crazy, but I've noticed it on several different vibes.I don't have any other GT's to compare mine to because mine's the only GT my dealer has ever had.Anyway, so far so good!
Well. this isn't exactly the best clutch I've drove, but not bad. Still O.K. at 37,000. My sunfire with stage 2 Clutchnet was amazing! Talk about grab! Possible mod for the future! The clutch does slip quite easily. I learned to drive on a standard some 13 yrs ago when I was 13, so I've driven a few in my day! Every car I've owned has been a stick! I think it has to do with the lack torque and the high revs that cause easy slippage. I'm personally not a fan of the tranny/clutch setup on the 2ZZ vehicles. Too FRAGILE!I'm hoping for TRD clutch in the future. Same clutch, but grabs harder. Or possibly the ACT 6 puck. Just got to get reliable source to install for cheap!
When you replace the clutch, are you replacing the entire assembly, or just the pad that "grabs?"For example, you talk about the ACT 6 puck. Would that be a whole clutch, or just a pd?
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
22K and no slippage at all. In the beginning in stunk a few times but that was probaly just breaking it in. Has not happened now in months......

I have not had any problems and I have almost 24k miles on my GT. Yes, it does slip easily like people are saying, most likely because of the low torque/high rev engine. Most people that drive my Vibe have a hard time getting used to the clutch and slip it quite a bit. But, no problems yet and hopefully the clutch will not wear out prematurly.

craigernd, I think we need a little clarification here. I think what's being said is that we need to slip the clutch a bit more than we like when getting started because of the lite flywheel and not that these clutches are actually slipping which would mean that they are not holding rpm when in gear and off the clutch. There have been lots of cars with higher gearing and lower torque to weight ratios that have been easier to launch smoothly. People stall there cars regardless of make when they buy aftermarket lite flywheels. Like the first time in a Vibe GT which already has one. Great engine response is the trade-off.

Just remove the brackets and it will workQuote, originally posted by craigernd »http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5172 (sorry I am not sure how to create hyperlink within this post)
My Vibe is close to 6 months old with 7,500 miles. The only time I have a burning smell problem is when starting from a stop on a hill. That slip is almost unavoidable. Other than that, the clutch is performing very well.
Quote, originally posted by craigernd »any reassurance I could receive before my base anual vibe is delivered later this month would be appreciated As far as I know, the only people complaning about the cluth are ownig GT, and you bought a base, so you sould not be concerned about this.My Vibe hit 1 year last month, 10 000 miles and no cluthc problem.Plus the Vibe is my 1st stick.
I have a base 5 speed, and have had no clutch problems, 31K miles so far. I have gotten the clutch burning smell once or twice, but that was when I did something really stupid, definitely "operator error". The base clutch is fine. no worries.
I hope my post is reassurring, ...I am putting 200hp to the wheels with my turbo set up, ..which I have had on for 13k and nearly a year..I should get a new clutch, ...but why would I ..when the stcok clutch is holding out fine!!!...and yes....I know how to make it slip, but more importantly, I know how to keep it from slippings...of course,..when I do get the upgrade, I will be able to launch way hard...but so far so good...w/ the stock clutch......
