Aftermarket alarm - Factory Alarm

Well, the good news is, for those of you poor souls who were so sadly tricked into getting the useless factory alarm, it is possible to add an aftermarket alarm anyway!I have successfully installed the Viper 790VX Responder alarm into my Vibe GT. This is one of those two-way things where the remote tells you the alarm status. It also has remote start (on a stick, I like to live dangerously), and will work WITH the factory alarm system.I gotta say, having the remote start, even though I only got it in last night, is great.I'm not gonna post up pictures or any of the wiring stuff online, I don't think we need people learning how to hotwire our cars. However, if you really want to install an alarm yourself (except the Vipers, they require professional installation. I could do it myself because, hey, I'm an installer!), I can get you the wiring information. Just let me know.It's fun being able to hit a button and watch your car start with nobody in it..

Did you bypass the clutch to start switch? I can imagine looking out at the car in the driveway, hitting the remote start button, and watching in horror as the car started driving away with nobody in it. Be sure to leave it in neutral!

Yes, I bypassed the clutch switch, otherwise it couldn't be able to start! Heh.As far as the neutral, yeah, I always park it in neutral. When I don't...I hooked up the neutral safety wire to the alarm through a switch. If I park in gear, I flick the switch. And voila, it won't start!Trust me..I don't want to start it up, hear the tires squeal, and hear it take off..

I've added a couple of accessories to the Alarm. Using the DEI 556T, the car can now start at any pre-set time. Either once, or weekly. Also, there's a temperature control, so if the temp inside the car drops below / above a certain range, the car will start once per hour. (Good for you in the great north!)

Yup. Right now it's programmed to run for 12 minutes..but I think i'm gonna set it for 25 instead. (It can be set to 12,25,60...or anywhere in between if I had a special programmer.) You can use the scheduler thing with any remote start that has an "instant start" wire..
