Considering 17inch wheels for my Vibe---Please Help!!

Post by Vibe »

I am considering putting the 17inch wheels with the Bridgestone tires on them---One of our members is selling some.See Another thread.I have some concerns---Will the different wheel assembly going from the 16" with Continentals up to the 17" with Bridgestone tires throw my speedometer off. And what are other hidden pro's & con'sSure wish Nova was here to read this. But I know there are other experts out there so PLEASE let me hear from you. Thanks James (Vibe)

Even switching to 17" wheels, the outer diameter of the tire remains unchanged, or if it is different, it's negligible. There's just less tire sidewall, and more wheel.Your speedo will not need to be recalibrated unless the outer diameter of the tire changes significantly, I believe more than an inch or something. Also realize with a larger tire, you MAY get some additional road noise, as there is less air between the road and the wheel. On the contrary, though, by shrinking the sidewall, you give the car improved handling, and there's less side to side "give" in the tire.

i have the oem 17's w/ dunlops. when i changed to my winter tires/rims, they were 15's. i just had to make sure the diameter was the same. the spedometer shouldn't need to be recalibrated unless there's a really big difference. i will say one thing about the dunlops: they are just as noisy as my studded winter radials!
