Trip to Quebec....TIPS??

Post by philndz »

Well....im heading out to quebec next week in the Vibe......any tips for the northern most trip i have made on this continent would be greatly appreciated. I know someone will ask so i'll tell you; i am going on my "summer" tires but will have tire chains should i need them.also on the topic of tires.....winter tires are softer rubber so they perform better in the cold weather......my summer tires are softer rubber so that they stick more in the summer.....will having these tires actually benefit me over a standard "hard" compound??I sure hope the battery hangs in there.....if anything happens then can i still call roadside service if im across the border?hmmmmmnnn??? What else?

Well I'm in Ottawa, beside the Quebec border, and so far my car has started everytime last year and everytime this year and thats without it being plugged in. So your battery should be fine - it may complain a bit at first, but it should start.Whereabouts in Quebec are you going?

Hello and bienvenue! Please let us know exactly where you plan on going so that the Quebec members can fill you in:Also check out this thread for ideas: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6421Sam By the way maybe snow tires would be of interest over here, it gets pretty cold and your "summer" tires would really lose their traction over here.

Well don't just go buying snow tires for a trip to Canada. That would be expensive! Unless you plan on staying for the entire winter.

I am heading out to Quebec City also, but in about a week and a half. I am not sure if Roadside Assistance will work if you are coming from the States. They have a different number in Canada. It's 1-800-268-6800. If it doesn't work and you are stuck on a highway, you can always call 911. It will connect you to the SQ (Quebec Police) and they will send a tow truck if Roadside doesn't work. I did that once and they came pretty quickly. Bon voyage!

The trip was fantastic. the vibe was a super comfortable car and made easy work of the 3000 miles that we put on her.

Did you have any cold/winter-related issues at all?actually nick, ohio gave us the biggest problems....we came through a lake effect snowfall on friday evening.....if i remember correctly it was the cleveland area that was the worst.....your snow plows did a great job though and we were able to keep moving and spend the night at buffalo, NY.And the battery in the Vibe complained a bit in canada.....but managed to start each time so that was a relief!
