2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4

Post by old man winter »

Ouch,I really need a turbo now. Check this thing out in the latest AMI Auto World mag. 0-60 in 5.9 215 hp @5400 rpm 245 lb.-ft. torque @ 3200-4200 rpm five speed. all this for under $20,000 US. I would never drive a Dodge.............but yikes.

OK Pontiac/Toyota time to get off your lazy asses and make the supercharger. Stop the red tape debate and just do it. Look at the stats on this dodge. "The SRT-4 features a 2.4-liter DOHC turbo-boosted 205 horsepower in-line four-cylinder engine that delivers 220 lb.-ft. of torque available from 2000 to 4800 rpm. And the added boost from the turbo is just the beginning. "One of the great things about the SRT-4 turbo is that enthusiasts will be able to get extra power out of it laterthrough packages available from our Mopar Performance Parts Group," said John Fernandez, Director?Performance Vehicle Operations. However, with performance estimates showing the vehicle is capable of 0-60 mph acceleration times of approximately 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 148 mph, Dodge SRT-4 is fast just as it is. The Neon SRT-4 was my first choice for my next vehicle but I needed a car asap at the time. 215 hp at the wheels from the factory and it will supposedly will come with upgrade kits ranging from 25-50-75 hp. That's 290 hp in a Neon! I was really kicking myself in the (removed) for not waiting but I'll live. And yes I'd drive any Dodge with numbers like that.

I believe SCC supposedly dynoed the car at 214 hp at the wheels and 245 wt.

No car manufacturer lists horsepower at the wheels. All list flywheel horsepower. On Dodges web page it says a 215-hp engine and there is no claim of "at the wheels". Unless it specifically states "at the wheels" all horsepower ratings are at the flywheel.

When they built 3 F-1 pilot cars, they came off the assembly line at 225+ hp according to the Jan/Feb Neon Notes from the assembly plant. Not saying they would do this day and age, but car companies would list lower hp because of insurance prices. I'm getting all/most my info from the neons.org SRT-4 forum which have alot of the contributing people posting there.

So which is 225+ hp or 215-hp at the wheels? Make up your mind. And if you think the production car will have the same horsepower that a pre-production car has your smokin' soom good weed.

I'm with you there. I hope Dodge really does produce a production car with the power they are claiming the show car has. Ford didn't when they released the production version of the Mercury Marauder without the blower from the show car.Talk is cheap. Ford didn't back it up. I hope Dodge does.

I doubt that they actually will back it up with the correct horsepower and personally I don't think that Dodge vehicles last near as long as they should. My wife has a '95 neon and it seems like I am constantly working on it.

Anybody else getting deja vu? Remember the GLH, Dodge's response to the Rabbit GTI? Not reknowned for quality or durability either.

It shipped August 23... it could take another month to make it to Frosty's driveway.
