Transmission slipping?

Post by iburgess »

Hi everyone,I have a base 5spd. When I park the car on a slight incline, if I do not engage the emergency brake, then the transmission will slip and the car will proceed slowly down the hill. Is this normal or is this a sign of a clutch gone bad - already? I usually park with the emergency brake on, but I know that I've had other standard vehicles where this has never occured, hence the question as to what this may mean.If any of you have any thoughts, please let me know. THANKS!

It's normal for a vibe. (or at least I hope so, because mine does it)I guess it depends on stuff like gear ratios, resistance provided by the engine, slope of the incline. When it rolls, the force is causing the engine to turn over, even though it's not running.I always use the parking brake, even on level surfaces.I know that when roll starting a manual, it's best to drop the clutch in a higher gear. Probably best to park it and leave it in a lower gear, because that way one rev of the wheel would require multiple revs of the engine.I suppose it could be clutch slipping, but how many miles/kms on your vibe, has it always behaved this way?

It is a good idea with all vehicles to use the E brake when parked. If not used then it will be streched and then when needed there will not be any parking break. It is costly to fix on some cars.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.
