Love bugs

Post by Craigmri »

Hey folks!I'm really close to making a decision on buying a vibe but I've read alot of distressing things about the paint quality. How are your Vibe's handling the love bugs? Do you stress out over them and clean them off daily? Are they damaging your paint?Craig

Doing fine. Just make sure you clean 'em off once a week!

It's not so much the bugs for me, but the paint chips. I have a black vibe, so they show up really nice. It seems like this paint job just isn't as resilient as others. I slapped on some paint protective film from 3M. Not cheap, but it's transparent, and it keep the paint from chipping off! Prevents scratching too. I have it on the hood, rear bumper, each door handle finder cut-out, and under the rear glass.

I try to wash my car oncee a week, so it keeps the bug juice from eating into the paint. Other than that I haven't really had any problems with the paint. I have a few chips on the hood, but that's from all the highway driving i've done.

I haven't had any problems in the 4 months I've owned mine. I think the good coat of Meguiar's wax I put on during the second week has diffidently helped.

update on the Vibes paint and Love bugs. back in august and September I had like no free time due to my wedding, honeymoon and other chors. needless to say in the middle of ove bug season it was not a wise decision to go 1 month without washing the Vibe. The fraking love bugs ate through my front paint and destroyed some of the plastic on the monotone bumber. All of the damage done was to the monotone bumper only. The rest of the car is ok. Needless to say. I forgot to put the car bra on. Stupid me
