quote:I am looking at langly area. not actually living in DC propre but probably the bethesda area or something like thatInformation on titling/registering your car in MD as well as info on getting a MD drivers license can be found at MD Motor vehicle Administration (MVA web site at
http://mva.state.md.us/ Registration is for a 2 year period, will cost $81 for a vibe.Instead of a simple fee schedule for titling the car in MD, their rules are:Vehicle(s) titled in a state with a tax rate equal to or higher than Maryland's 5% tax rate will cost $100. If the vehicle is registered in a state that imposes no tax, the tax will be assessed at 5% of the value of the vehicle. Vehicles from a state with a lower tax rate than Maryland's 5% will be taxed at the rate of the difference between the two states. Example: MD 5%, VA 3%, the difference is a 2% tax rate. Minimum tax - $100. When the value of the vehicle is less than $2,000, the 5% rate will apply. To get a MD license, you need a birth certificate and some other form of ID. Last time I was in there I saw a guy get in a heated argument with one of the workers because he thought his phone calling card should be enought ID to get a MD drivers license. That's one of the great things about going to the MVA, you see a complete cross section of society there.Maryland does not charge a annual tax on vehicles other than the registration. VA has some sort of personal property tax every year, not sure what it is but have heard lots of people complain about it.The basic MD license plate is white with black letters, tag numbers for a car are usually three letters, a space, and three numbers. There are two optional plates available for a one time fee, either a "Treasure the chesapeake" one that is pale blue with a heron, or "Our farms our future" which has a lot of red and yellow and a farm scene. Not sure which would look best on a shadow vibe, I went with the basic one for my satellite vibe.
