Vibe's C59 doesn't come up as an interchange part for Matrix

Post by Crowquill »

Transmission recently went out on my 03 Matrix XR. Shops are quoting to install a $2000+ used transmission. I found out if I search car-part.com for Matrix vs Vibe I get very different results. Matrix search only gives me Matrix and Corolla. Vibe transmissions seem to be more plentiful and cheaper. Is this just one of those situations where nobody questions what the computer tells them? Is there something I'm missing? Between here and Toyotanation I've read plenty of examples of transmission installs from both Matrix to Vibe and vice-versa.

I've read about the bearing improvements in the 05+ models. Any issues putting one of those in my '03?

Thanks a ton in advance for any help.

The interchange parts list is wrong. The exterior and interior of the Vibe/Matrix/Corolla transmissions are all the same.

Toyota upgraded the C59 when the Corolla got bigger after 2001, but didn't upgrade it more when the Matrix/Vibe was being developed. The bearings where not strong enough to haul around the extra weight of the wagon.

Buy a 2006 or newer transmission. The 2005 transmission was upgraded mid year, but I'm not sure when the switch over happened.
