AC Combo Switch Connection with Control Cable for Defrost

Post by muttleytm »

The control cable is off of the combo switch on my 2003. I had to remove the bezel a few times to get at some things on the back of the radio. I thought maybe I just forgot to hook it back up. I also had to replace the bezel as enough of the mounting tabs broke off it that it no longer stays in place.

The new used bezel didn't arrive with any switches. so I installed the old switches in the new bezel. I don't see how the cable attaches or remember. I sort of remember it latched in place. I didn't see that the plastic was broken on that part of the switch, but I didn't see any way that it would attach or some missing clip might go.

I'm thinking maybe there were some plastic tabs that got brittle and may have broke off with all the bezel removals.

Does anyone know just how the control cable attaches or have some good pictures?

Been too long since I messed with one to remember how it clips in, I think I only ever disconnected the other end. If you can't get it figured out, remember that the only purpose it serves is to trip from recirculate to fresh air whenever the air direction is set to the windshield. I never use recirc (except when a farm nearby manures its fields in spring). If you seldom or never use recirc, then its not important.

I found an ebay listing for a Matrix HVAC control that had this picture of the back, and I added a zoomed in piece that shows the attached cable, if nothing else you can compare it to the one you have to see if it looks like yours is missing something
