Vent air

Does anyone else have the problem that with the normal vent air on, no A/C, that the air is some what warm?? And sometimes I get hot air blowing through the vents. I have been in my mom's new Pontiac Grand Am GT and the air coming in through the normal vent mode, again no A/C, is down right cold. Any way to solve this problem??

The heater door linkage might have something to do with it, but not likely... I've got the same problem, and the linkage has been checked repeatedly that it's correct.It seems that once the engine's heated up for a while, either the radiant heat from the engine itself or the heater core chamber (personally my suspect) heats up the ducting inside the vehicle, and so you never get actual "outside temperature" air. The now hot ducting itself warms the air on it's way through. Unfortunate design I guess, and I can't think of any way to stop it, unless you want to try installing a bypass valve in the heater core line.

Yeah.......that definetely is my problem. I guess it is one of those "gotta make due" situations. Thanks for the help though!!

i don't know if it helps, but when it's hot outside, my vent air is hot, when its cold, it comes out cold

I've noticed this in mine, and the temp control cable is adjusted, but there's heat getting into the vent system from somewhere. I've had other cars that used some sort of coolant valve in line with the heater core so that there was no flow if the temp control was set to all the way cold, but don't know if the Vibe has such a device or not. I'm guessing notNow that the weather is cooling off a bit, I can really notice that the vent air is definitely warmer than the outside air. Won't be long before I won't mind the vent air being a bit warmer., but will live with it till then.

Yes my vent air is warmer than outside air. AND stranger yet, vent air comes through even when blower is off -- almost the same as the low setting. I have NEVER had a car do this. Something is not fully closed and letting warmed air from the engine in. Have not checked yet about the A/C adjustment, maybe it is related.

As the car moves, air naturally flows through the car. If you don't like it, you can set it to floor-directed airflow...Every car I've ever had does this...it keeps air circulating through the cabin...otherwise, you'd never get fresh air in the car...

I've had vehicles that performed the same way as the Vibe - vent air seems to more noticably come out of the two far end vents as a circulation-type feature so there is always fresh air coming into the vehicle.Best tip would be to turn the temperature dial to cold when it's warm outside and hot when it's cold outside. Even if the dial is set to cold and the A/C is off, the air will not be too cool but warm since the interior and components of the system get warm as the outside temperature rises (especially from the engine bay area). This is normal. Obviously on cooler days, the air coming through the vents would be cooler - just don't expect the air to be cool (with no A/C) if it's 80+ degrees F outside.
