That's how I would think of it, but the Matrix is indeed the same system (unless I'm mistaken) and I've always seen Toyotas called 4WD. You're right, I guess there's nothing in a name sometimes.
yes...you are very correct raging....big difference between 4wd and awd....4wd is not very practical on the streets and not economical either...but on the flip side it will generally outperform awd systems on the rough stuff....although some of the really techy awd systems coming out have the advantage of computer control and can be very effective off road...ie. landrovers and mercedes and such.
