gas milage

Post by Merzbow »

I dunno about all of you but does it seem like your gas depleats (spelling) really fast? Or am I just not paying attention to how many miles I'm driving? I know they are supposed to get 30 or so miles to the gallon, but it sure doesn't seem like it. -=Paul=-

When I fill up, it takes about 75 miles before the needle even moves, then then drops fairly quickly to 3/4 tank when I have around 115 miles on it. At 1/2 tank, I'm around 200 miles, then when I have 1/4 tank left, I'm around 300. I better start thinking about finding a gas station after I'm below 1/4 tank because it seems to drop very quickly after that. I usually need to fill up when I've got about 315-330 miles on the trip meter.I've kept good tabs on my mileage and in the summer I'm getting about 30-32mpg with my 5-speed. In the winter, I get less. I think the lowest I got was 25 or 26mpg.Rasermon ticked me off with his 40mpg trip in his GT, so last tank I drove it very easy, 72mph instead of 80 on I-75, etc., and got only 35mpg. That did include some city driving, but I was taking it very easy. I think I'll go back to listening to the CAI and take 30 mpg.

Paul, there's a ton of topics on gas mileage, how to improve it, how to measure it, what people have been getting, how accurate the EPA ratings are, when does the low fuel light come on, how accurate is the gas gauge, what octane to use, etc. I've put about 23K mostly highway miles on my base 5 speed, and for those 23K miles, I am actually getting 36 mpg average. Depends a lot on how and where you drive. What sort of miles per gallon are you getting, in what kind of Vibe?

If you're looking to improve your gas mileage, reduce carbon build up, lower the emissions of your engine and save money all at the same time, check this product out!!!This product does everything they say it does. I've been using it for 2 years now in my motorcycle and I'm glad I tried it. I'll be installing it in both of my cars as soon as I get a few bills paid off and have some extra money available.http://www.fitchfuelcatalyst.com/techinfo/fitchfaq.html

How hard is that thing to install? Isn't it dangerous to open the fuel tank after it leaves the factory (once fuel and fuel vapors have been introduced)?
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

It's ok to open the tank! You should drain it first, makes it a lot easier, but it's the only way to get at the fuel pump/sender assmbly! I'm always a little skeptical of add in products that boast huge differences in emissions, or H/P, or torque! Never quite live up to the expectations!

It seems to good to be true, but it is true. I spoke to the mechanic at a motorcycle shop who does their dyno runs and he confirmed a 2 hp increase in a bone stock bike just by adding the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. I just coudn't believe it but he said "believe it, it works".I have stored my bike for the last 2 winters with a full tank of gas without adding any fuel stabilizer and had no problems. The bike fired right up in the spring without any problems from "stale gas".This stuff works for real, no kidding.

Averaging 30+ mpg in the city (mostly city anyway) and close to 40 when on the hiway.. Only thing I do different than most is skip gears unless I want to accelerate fast

What I did with my Vibe and my previous vehicles was to fill the tank. Run it till I was down to the 3/4 mark then fill it again taking note of how much gas I put in. Did the same down to 1/2 and 1/4. Now I can rough estimate my mileage at each quarter mark by taking the miles into the gallons estimated at that spot. THis is what I came up with for Gallons per each mark.Full-3/4 - 4 gallons average. (only after topping off)3/4-1/2 - 3 gallons average. (7 total)1/2-1/4 - 3 gallons average. (10 total)Although I believe it's a bit more than 4 gallons after topping off, since you can put over a gallon more in after the handle clicks and it clicks off around 3 gallons in, it's only a rouded-off number to help ease the mpg calculations. Now, 3 gallons between each mark isn't really a lot. Only maybe 90-100 miles for the GT if you're on the highway. If you top off that additional Gallon or more, it will seem as if the gas depletes faster as the gauge thing goes down. One side note... I notice the placement of the gauge when sutting the vehicle off... It's always about 1/16 lower after restarting. I would assume this would be the more accurate reading so remember this is only to estimate.Dave

You went through all that trouble to figure out how many gallons between each mark?! All you had to do was divide the tank capacity by 4.13.2 / 4 = 3.3 gal

I figure it's close enough to 10 gallons gone when the needle is at 1/4 tank, and that makes getting a MPG estimate easy while driving along. (I also do a halfway at 6.6 gallons, which is harder to figure, but it gives me something to do)

True but 1. I had to fill the tank up anyway so I just did it on the marks and 2. Not all gauges are the same. Some don't read evenly throughout the whole tank. None are 100% accurate. I know this from experience with my Truck and previous car where I actually had less in the first quarter and almost twice as much in the last quarter for the truck and vise-versa for the previous car. The Vibe seems to be a little more even throughout if I don't top-off too much but I wouldn't have known that for sure if I didn't go through a LITTLE trouble of remembering how many gallons I put in when I filled up.Dave

I dont know how many miles per gallon yet I havent taken the time to figure it out and I dont know the tank capacity either, but I have a 2003 base, and yes you're right only the lsat 1/4 tank goes real fast thats probably why its been goig down so far, because I've been driving with only $5 worth when ever I fill it. -=Paul=-
