New Here! CV Axle Seal question

Post by VibeGoddess »

Hey All! I'm new here. I've owned my Manual 5 speed 03 Vibe with the 1ZZ engine with 154,000 miles for about a year and a half now. Poor thing has been in 2 accidents in that time and I've managed to keep her going. Not too long after the last accident(a Verizon van sideswiped me when he pulled into my lane of traffic) the CV Axle on the driver(left) side went. By not long I mean literally the next day. I do 95% of the work on my car myself and the part was only $80. So you bet that I did it. The biggest issue I had was that I had a hell of a time finding the right seal. I used what the guys at AutoZone THOUGHT was the right seal but we couldn't for the life of us find what the right part number was and we took a guess. It looked pretty much identical but now it's freakin leaking. Not majorly but enough that I don't wanna chance driving it til I replace it again. I know that it could be that I didn't get it in right as well. So, there is that. However, if someone has any idea on the actual part or part number for the seal that would be awesome. I'd love to KNOW I use the right seal instead of hoping it's right. I spent HOURS searching the net trying to find the right part number and/or name but all I could come up with was Trans Axle "half seal" and that didn't look like the right part at all.

ALSO, according to the people at my tire place(the only people who work on my car besides me) when they did the front end alignment on my car the bushings for steering rack are going. I can actively hear the THUD when I go over large bumps now. Does anyone know if there are replacement bushings? The rack is fine. I don't want to have to replace the entire thing. I just replaced the tie rods entirely when I replaced the CV Axle because the boots had huge holes in them on both sides. I saw someone on Ebay selling what they claim to be the right bushings but I'm skeptical.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any info.

Rockauto has the below axle seals. I cannot recall what the trans codes are for the 5 speed. I checked alldata and it does not provide part numbers for the seals; just for the tools used to remove/install

Yeah, that's been my biggest problem and I'm not sure if Autozone sold me the wrong seal last time or what. It's ACTIVELY leaking and no small amount. Thanks for that info. I'm gonna try to get another seal and see if that fixes it. It wasn't leaking at first but after driving it for about a month it started leaking.

On the rack bushings, it sure looks like they are not available separately. I use this site to check: http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/us/20 ... -gear-link
