with the hubby & child aboard (340lbs) extra, how come the vib never got past 80mph w/6000 rpms showing when tonite buzzing home with just me and the kid (100lbs) extra, the vib was hitting 85 mph with only around 4200rpms showing w/still power to spare? even w/the od off, it never got past 5000-5100rpms at 85mph and could have gone faster (all of this on a moderate incline) ...does that extra 240lbs really have that kind of effect on my awd base vib??????
Actually Mike every pulley steals a little bit through friction and resistance from what ever part they turn, the A/C especially because it acyually has a clutch that engages the compressor to the pulley! But Red, you gained power is that what you mean!?My wife and I just got back from a 2500km trip with some wicked hills. 11% grade on one hill, we were loaded, probably 250lbs of cargo plus a conservative 350lb for the wife and I and we were getting passed by friggen 2.6 Caravans I swear! Actually not that bad but did notice the base a little gutless on those long hills, but thats when the 3/5 rule comes into effect, don't let it get below three and shift at five and rocket over the crest!! I did notice on the flats I could fly at 140km/h and not even get near 4000, even 160km/h still under 4 grand! That is impressive!! Milage sucks but fun to watch the traffic go by and my wife can't see the speedo, another plus!

Yes, I agree, the way the gauge is designed, I can "push my limits" without my passengers being able to see the speed or tach and yelling at me! Woohoo!!!!
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
at any given rpm the speed should be the same whether your loaded or light....it will just take longer to get to that rpm if ur heavy....r u sure your comparing the same gear?

With a base Vibe and automatic transmission with extra weight and a moderate incline, you are going to notice the lack of torque the 1.8L motor produces. It's just basic physics. Under normal operating conditions, the motor has enough power, but in more 'extreme' situations, you'll see that your motor's 125lb/ft of torque is not that much.
