Paint chipping after 2 weeks?!

Post by Mathew_M »

Is there anything to be done? I have a silver monotone (wish I could of gotten the two tone now) that is showing paint chipping after on a couple of weeks of average driving. Most of them are small nicks on the front nose and not too noticeable but there is a nasty scuff on the lower driverside molding. I've read that this was a problem on 03' models and was hoping that it was cured on 04' production line.Is there any kind of wax that will help protect? Also has anybody had any luck with touching it up? Somebody suggested a bra but I find them hideous looking.

hey, nice pic! That's my car I've only taken it off once since the middle of June when I installed it (and that was to wash the car). I scrubbed the cover to get all the dead bugs off (eww!). Then I took the cover off, set it on the lawn to dry, and washed & waxed the car. After I dried the car, I reinstalled it (a 5 minute procedure). The front end of my car is pretty dinged up from before I got the cover, but I would complain to your dealer 1st ... you might get a deal on a cover, and you'll be another notch on the "this paint sucks" list.

Its ashame that one would have to get a front end cover to protect the paint... GM HAS to do something about it...is it worth complaining to my dealer almost after one year??

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into getting the dealer to do something about it. Very frustrating because I want to recommend this car to everyone. I love everything else about it but will have a hard time keeping mum about the crappy paint job. Also I'm not sure I want my Vibe with an executioners mask. Looks kind of sadomasochistic; might attract some interesting women though.

I never really looked at it like that, but now that you mention it... I haven't had any strange guys chasing me down since I got it. Kinda glad for that!I don't mind the look, I realize it's not for everyone. But, I look at it as saving some major wear & tear on my car. I'm good about getting it serviced and rotating the tires, but I just can't afford to repaint the car. So, this paint job has gotta last until 2008 when the car is paid off. I'll probably have gone through 5 sets of tires by then...
