Hey all,I have about 30 some odd gigs of music and thousands of jpg files and I am paranoid of losing them all...My computer has a cd burner.. any advice on what software I could get to back up all of these...Is there a program that can compress and save to CD-rom for me?thanks

I was in the same situation as you, but I ended up buying a USB drive kit and put in a spare 20GB drive I had and transferred all my files that way.It as a little slow, but got the job done. I would have had to buy 50 blank CD-R's and burning them on my slow 8x burner would be hell. This is the drive kit I bought (cheap and works well):http://www.adstech.com/products/USB_2_D ... d=USBX-804

I hear ya man!I bought an entire second hard drive, and store my data exclusively on that...I know it's just as risky as if I used the primary hard drive...but it works for now...Hopefully, down the line, when DVD burners become more affordable, I can get one of those and start back this shtuff up!!!

If your music is MP3's they're already compressed about as far as possible, and another compression program isn't going to be able to do much to reduce the size. If you can, it's more convenient to not compress your backup, makes it easy to restore the files, or just use them from the backup media. More transportable to other systems if you don't use a special backup software

Hmmm I never thought of hardware to be an option... An external Harddrive would probably be perfect for me.... I am always glad to ask these things here.. Thanks
