HURT! What to do...scraped bumper.

Post by savedbyzero »

So, my wife backed into a dumpster and put a small crease to the left of the reverse light and scratched the heck out of the right side of the wrap-around part of the bumper. So now do I pay the $250 deductible, slightly raised insurance, and a new bumper, or do I get this one fixed for about 250? (filled, sanded, painted). I'm worried the repair spot will be too noticable because of the lack of texture do to sanding the harmed spot down.BAH! I hate trash! I hate money! And I hate my wif.....or not. Sorry, about that! Any thoughts? Maybe I'll just call my boys in Detroit and have them overnight me a GT-R rear bumper. They've gotta have one laying around there, somewhere!

Sorry to hear about the damage. I'm guessing that the replacement repair would probably run $800-1000 since my minor snow incident back in March cost just over $800 to replace only the lower piece of the front bumper. Luckily my insurance did not go up, actually went down when I turned 21 a few months later. Can you post a pic of the damage? I'm not sure how it would come out if they just repaired your bumper. i'd say if you plan on getting the different bumper anyway, do it. if your insurance goes up, it will stay up for quite a while. even if it costs a bunch, you'll pay more in the long end in insurance

It's not gonna go up much. I'll just turn it in and get them to by the bumper. That's what insurance is for, anyways.

I think it depends on the state you are in, and/or the ins. co., but you may not have a deductable and no increase in rates, depending on how it happened.

Think this one out carefully...If you make a lot of claims, even if they're not your fault, the insurance companies will often hold that against you. YES, technically they should fix it, but do you REALLY want to file a claim for something that is not major damge?Like I said, weigh this one out carefully before you go and file a claim...might be safer to just suck it up and live with it, or replace the bumper out of pocket...or maybe find a junkyard with a totaled vibe and an intact bumper (IMO, your best bet)...but if I were you, I would not claim it on insurance...

Hey you know what? Some stupid (removed) kid had his skateboard in my garage and it slipped outa his hands and the grip tape scraped the back left corner of the rear bumper....I have the base model so the bumper is plastic, but it is still sort of noticable. I haven't gotten it fixed yet cause I have no idea how too sooo. -=Paul=-

Is it in an area that could be covered by the body kit?I had a simalar incedent. I backed int a skinny 2hr parking sign in a dark parking lot only a few months of owning my Vibe. It hit right over the back up light. It's not that noticable unless you point it out to someone. But I'm waiting for more body kits to come out that will replace the front and rear bumpers.

The current body kit will not cover it. It would have to be a whole new bumper. If the GT-R bumper was to come out, then I would wait. But fat chance of that happening!

That's too bad, sorry 'bout that. I'm sure ther's gonna be more kits available by next spring. If you could hold on til then, save some $$. Winter will be here soon anyway so might as well wait. That's my plan. New REAL body kit and redo the whole body paint since it's for crap.
