Removing EVAP, any computer tuners here?

Post by samsonite »

I want to completely remove the EVAP system on my car and just have it vent to the atmosphere. Is there anyone here who could remove the codes from the PCM so they don't appear?

What do you expect to gain by doing this? Trying to avoid fixing a broken EVAP system?
Besides more pollution you'll decrease your MPGs slightly; and your gas will evaporate and go stale faster if you don't allow the tank to build slight pressure.

Yeah, fix the problem by removing it.

I guess i could fix it... Where to start? No check engine light/ no codes. Should I replace the charcoal canister/box? Check the pressure valve?

So what's the problem? Symptoms?

Gas pump clicks off constantly. It's really hard to fill. It clicks off nearly 40 times before i get to the full mark. Just bought this Vibe with 63,000 miles

Have you inspected the systems components? I'm guessing it won't be this easy to diagnose! But should be an easy diagnosis for a mechanic who regularly works on Corolla's.

You can't alter the PCM. You'd have to get a stand alone system for a mere $1300, and then tuning is $400-800 usually. A piggyback wouldn't touch the EVAP system, and I'm not sure a stand-alone would, either, not without massive amounts of modification.

I found this simple test for a plugged charcoal canister on YouTube! You may be able to do this without removing the canister. I'm sure there are other "youtubes" concerning diagnosis of EVAP symptoms.
