New Vibe Maintenance

Post by cjnoyes »

I just this week bought an 03 base automatic with 124K on the odometer. I already switched out the O ring on the timing chain tensioner, solving a small oil leak, which was the only problem I was able to detect with the car. I am wondering what other maintenance I should do around this mileage as preventative maintenance, or to improve performance.

Thanks!

Welcome to GenVibe!

There's lots of maintenance info in the Maintenance and Care section of the board.

Off the top of my head, you'll want to check/replace the following:

Brake Pads & Shoes
Engine oil
Transmission Fluid
Brake Fluid
Radiator Coolant
Power Steering Fluid
Engine Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
EDIT: Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve (PCV)
Mass Airflow Sensor (clean)
Throttle Body (clean)
Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) (clean)
Oil Control Valve & Filter (OCV)(clean, though some replace the filter)

You may consider changing the Intake manifold gasket as they tend to get leaky and cause rough idle- you'll have the throttle body off, so you can clean it and the IACV in the same session.

That should keep you busy for a while... :)

what ehoff said.
Also check with a GM dealer if all the recalls have been taken care of.
PCV typically stands for Positive Crank case Ventilation valve, but pollution control valve sounds better.

I'm showing my age here. Back in the day, that's what I was taught PCV stood for.
