The daytime light are always on and they are working fine. However, switching to night headlamp doesnt change to power output of the headlamp. Even playing with the sensor it doesnt change (only the dash lighting response the the switch/sensor )
So basically I'm stuck with low power DRL day/night. My fog lights are burned( or malfunction I didnt check yet) I wonder if there`s a a link?
Could it be the bulb that are defective? what should I check?
The headlight bulbs in an 04 have two filaments, one for low beam and one for high beam. When in DRL mode, the headlights should be on dimmer than full low beam, and the car does this by putting less voltage through the low beam filament than it does when low beams are on full. so, it can't really be the bulbs, if they light up at all in drl or low beam, then the filaments are not broken.
Sounds like an odd problem, and there could probably be several things causing it
Has it always been this way, or is this a new development?
Have you or anyone else done any electrical work or mods to the car that you know of?
When you think the low beams should be on full (not half bright DRL), are your tail lights (not the brake lights) light up?
Does pushing or pulling on the light lever turn on high beams?
I remember when people were first looking for ways to disable the automatic DRLs, they found out that disconnecting the light sensor on the dash resulted in still getting DRLs, but never getting automatic full on low beams. Can't remember if that was only a problem with the automatic lights, or if it kept the full low beams from coming on even when manually turning the headlight switch to on.
In the electrical circuit for the headlights, the bulbs get 12V from the headlight fuse, through the headlight relay. If there was a problem with that, then you wouldn't get drl or low beams, so that's probably ok. The other side of the bulbs goes to the DRL module, which gives the bulb either a ground (for full on) or some voltage or resistance to limit the current to give you the dimmer DRL mode. It could be the DRL module has gone rogue, or maybe some input to it is wrong. For what its worth, the DRL module is also a critical link in the fog light circuit, the DRL module turns off the fog lights when you switch to hi beams
and after saying all of that, not sure what to recommend you do to try to further troubleshoot it
