Keyfob stopped working after aftermarket radio install

Post by Nucleotide »

Hi All,

Wondering if you can help me out with an issue ive just discovered.
After recently installing an aftermarket stereo (on a budget) into my car, (2006 base model vibe) ive noticed that the key fob no longer works and i cannot lock, unlock or open the rear from the remote anymore.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? What did you do to fix it? Could there be a chance that i just have to reprogram the keyfob? Any light you can shed on the subject is always appreciated!

First, are you sure the fob battery is good? It could just be a coincidence that it stopped at the same time as the radio install. Some auto parts places have battery testers on their key fob battery racks. Did you use a conversion harness to install the radio? It is possible you somehow cut the power to the lock module or something. I would check your fuses and then would go ahead and try the reprogramming steps to see if the locks cycle open and closed to let you know the car is ready to accept a new remote fob.

Good luck on it!
