I recently got a letter from my (latest) dealership, reminding me that the following maintenace items are recommended:Oil, Lube & FilterTire Rotation Injector Purge What the heck is an injector purge. If it's recommended, why can't I find it in the owner's manual or warranty booklets?I think this was supposed to be the 60000 km service interval (36000 mi). Of course, I've had at least 2 oil changes since I was there last. I got the LOF & TR done, but injector purge ??!!??

I figured that. But do I need it done by the dealership? Can I just throw a bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank & call it a day?I'm just suspicious of a $79.95 rip-off job for a $3.95 bottle of injector cleaner. I don't know if it's really $79.95, but I can only imagine...

Injector cleaners that go in the tank are ok but nothing like what the mechanics use. They use special stuff in a pressurized bottle that hooks up to the fuel injector rail. They disconnect the fuel pump and start the engine using the pressure in the bottle to fuel the engine. It runs for a couple of minutes on the stuff in the bottle and then dies when empty. That cleans them much better. Remove the bottle and re-connect the fuel pump and your done.
It might not be there. Remember, most dealers send out just a generic maintenence reminder that covers many cars. It probably isn't specific to the Vibe. That's where the owners manual comes in. Only have the dealer do what's in the manual, not what that card says.
