General Maintenance

Post by isvoboda »

Hello,
My 2007 Pontiac Vibe has just over 88,000 miles and I have been doing some very general maintenance. I installed iridium spark plugs, K&N air filter and cabin air filter, cleaned up my MAF sensor, and used sea-foam to clean up my fuel injectors/fuel system. Without spending more than $50 is there anything else I can do to improve my efficiency and performance. Thanks

You can clean your throttle body, but there's nothing left to do for under $50.

PCV valve? They don't usually go out but it's a nightmare when they do.

My BF's mother blew her engine by not changing oil often enough and the PCV got plugged.

Transmission pan dump and filter change, $20 kit plus about 4 quarts of new trans type IV fluid $10-$40

A reputable engine crud cleaner; seafoam possibly, with oil change

Brake fluid change

Cooling system flush and fluid change

tire rotation; rebalance tires;

front end alignment (will go above $50 if you have serious issues)

a/c system check

LED lights for common used lights (running lights)

Disconnect the air intake tube and spray the crap out of it with carb cleaner is all I've ever done. Then buy Top Tier gas exclusively and don't worry about it anymore.

Pull the intake tube off like said, spray with carb cleaner, and scrub with toothbrush. You can open the butterfly with your fingers if it's electronic, or use the cable lever to open it.

Top tier keeps your valves clean, not your throttlebody. The fuel is not injected until after the TB and intake, just in front of the intake valves on the head.
